mommyto2girls Posted February 2, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 2, 2014 When we were on the Gem 2 weeks ago we were told they will be doing a lot of replacing of carpet and furniture especially common areas like the Casino. I am sure that would be the time they will do away with Blue Lagoon :( and put in O'Sheehans. The Executive staff told us it is a spruce up and replace. CruisinMaterial Posted February 2, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 2, 2014 Dont worry, it will still be there just with another name! And another, more crappy late night menu. O'Sheehan's late night menu is extremely limited and downright horrible. :(
CruisinMaterial Posted February 2, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 2, 2014 I always liked the Blue Lagoonwill be sad to see it go Chalk me up as another person who will be sad to see Blue Lagoon go. I think Mr. Sheehan needs to leave his name on the new ships he's built since he came on as CEO and leave the old ships alone. Like the saying goes: If it isn't broke then don't fix it! :)
antsnanny Posted February 2, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 2, 2014 And another, more crappy late night menu. O'Sheehan's late night menu is extremely limited and downright horrible. :( We loved it! You can go there for breakfast, lunch or dinner...On the last night of our Oct. cruise they served prime rib for dinner at O'Sheehans. I guess to each to his own but my group of 10 loved it.. We pretty much though it was very much like the Blue Lagoon. Hopefully it will not disappoint you as much as it did CruisinMaterial.

The rest of the time O'Sheehan's menu is comparable to what you can get in Blue Lagoon. In the wee hours of the morning when the disco closes and you're in there you have a choice of chicken pot pie and three other offerings. This is from 1AM until they switch for breakfast service. The menu at Blue Lagoon on the older ships is available all night long, including when the disco closes.

Cruiselover7279 Posted February 2, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 2, 2014 Do we know when she will be back sailing in January? We are planning our anniversary cruise on her for Jan 3rd sailing.
EBONI325 Posted February 2, 2014 #12 Share Posted February 2, 2014 I was on the breakaway in dec 2013 and i didn't care for o'sheehans, menu was not as good as the blue lagoon's.
QuickieGlenn Posted February 2, 2014 #13 Share Posted February 2, 2014 The location of the Blue Lagoon on the GEM is horrible, people always walking thru to get to there rooms, how can they turn it into the Irish pub when it is tables surrounding a walkway. We like the food at the Blue Lagoon, but it is not a pub
Bizylizy1123 Posted February 2, 2014 #14 Share Posted February 2, 2014 We are booked on a 9 day cruise on the Gem in December 2014 leaving on the 13th - most of the November cruises were cancelled but the December ones are still intact at the moment. In fact one person mentioned on our roll call that the cruise directly before ours, leaving at the beginning of December was adjusted from a 9 day to a 12 day for no additional cost if you were all ready booked. Don't worry about a January date!
mugtech Posted February 2, 2014 #15 Share Posted February 2, 2014 Do we know when she will be back sailing in January? We are planning our anniversary cruise on her for Jan 3rd sailing. The Gem has a 2 day cruise ending 11/9/14 and then starts full service again on 11/22/14 according to the schedules posted on the NCL website. Tyskie Posted February 2, 2014 #17 Share Posted February 2, 2014 Is there an exact date for the dry dock? I'm assuming from what is posted a good portion of November? We'll be on her 10/18.............fingers crossed they don't change dates. I prefer Blue Lagoon over O'Sheehan's. Maybe because it was on the BA and it's such a congested area? Like the quiet of Blue Lagoon. And just love the Great Outdoor Café JMHO :)
