I would pack in your checked luggage. We had a sound machine in a carryon bag at Pt. Canaveral to get on the Dream. It was this.

Security took it and said I could go to Guest Services and see about getting it back. I went to Guest Services the first night and they said they didn't know why it was confiscated, but they have the discretion to return it. It was delivered to my stateroom.

 

 

 

I'm just mentioning this to say that if something does get confiscated, I'm sure that you can go to Guest Services and explain the circumstances and they can make a determination.

 

 

Not sure what you are saying to pack into checked luggage, the CPAP? It's a medical device. I'm pretty sure they don't confiscate medical devices.

Slightly off topic, but...

 

Anyone have any issues/success bringing distilled water for their CPAPs? I've only seen distilled water sold in 1 gal containers

Sorry to sound dumb - but what does CPAP mean? *sigh*

 

A C-pap is a device used for sleep apnea,not sure if it has any other uses.

just got off the Inspiration. my husband has a cpap. we packed a new extention cord and also a 3 outlet adapter. we never used the extention cord but found the 3 outlet adapter very helpful. the one room outlet was right next to the bed. we could plug in the cpap and also have outlets for chargers and curling iron etc. we used the tap water for the cpap. it's super filtered.

I was on Paradise in July 2012. I had a brand new (still in package) UL-approved power strip with surge protector - the kind that protects bi-directionally... Port Security took it from my carry-on and told me it would be discarded and that I wouldn't be getting it back. They said this was on the instruction of the head of maintenance on the Paradise... had I been leaving at the same time on the ship next door, the Legend, I would have been able to bring it. I fussed at the Guest Services desk after boarding because that power strip was top of the line and cost me $40... I'd better get it back! I quoted them chapter and verse what someone else posted here... that it's allowed but if for some reason they don't, they'll return it. They pulled me out of line after leaving the ship and handed over my power strip- packaging removed and looking like someone dragged it behind a car! I'm not sure it was even mine, although it was the same brand and looked similar.

 

BTW the one I packed in my checked luggage made it no problem even though it was older...

 

So I think a lot depends on the age of the ship and the attitude of the security person you get!

Good idea, but don't count on it if the ship's engineer says no... I found it on my phone and showed it to the security agent and they basically said 'tough, ship's engineer says no, so forget it'. I think if I had been dealing with Carnival personnel instead of port security, it might have been different.

We just got back from the Dream and our friend uses a CPAP. He did not take an extension cord and had to borrow one from the ship. They brought him a bright orange 50 ft cord you could have used to repel off the side of the ship with. There are two plugs on the wall just above the dressing table. One is US and one is UK. If you take an adapter and your item is dual voltage you should be able to take advantage of both. There is a plug in the bathroom above the mirror marked for electric shavers. I thought it was only a two prong, but could be wrong. The one above the dressing table is three prong. If it were me (next time) I wouldn't take a power strip but a three outlet splitter and just plug into the single plug above the dressing table. I have one that's "T" shape with three three prong outlets (center and both ends) I use for Christmas lights I will be taking next time. It was a real pain swapping out the E-readers, phones, and tablets to keep them all charged with only one plug. If you need an extension cord for the CPAP the plug is on the opposite side of the cabin so you need at least an 8 - 10 footer.

Have a little two outlet strip that plugs directly into outlet. Like I said, has two outlets and also has two USB outlets. Worked great, carried on in my backpack..

Another poster asked, I'll ask again, what about your distilled water, are you carrying on the gallon jug?

 

And for the extension cords, are you wrapping them up each morning? Tripping hazard at night running across the floor from the cabinet to the bed?

I have used a CPAP since 2005 on cruises. I have been told because of the de-salinization (is that a word?) process for making salt water drinkable, you basically get distilled water out of the tap. I have never had an issue with the ships water. Also, since you are in a warmer climate, with higher humidity, the humidifier is not something that has to be used. I also bring my own extension cord and bought a three pronged plug that I keep attached to the extension cord. They are the same color, so they basically look like one unit. i have never been questioned on this setup.

I had issues brining a fan on the magic even with their website saying it was fine. It took a lot of back and forth and me talking to several people to get the fan to our room. It was a brand new fan.

We had them confiscated on Pride a few years ago, but a few weeks ago on Splendor they went through. There may have been a change in rules since the Pride cruise, but it is the same cord so it isn't based on the condition of the cord. We did, however, pack it right in with the CPAP on Splendor rather than in the checked luggage.

Last thing we do every night is plug in the CPAPs and the first thing in the morning we wrap up the cord so it is not a hazard (because it is usually going across the room).

Interesting, thanks I will investigate! One year I bought distilled from RCI and they charged me $4.50 for a gallon (only size they had). Since you can buy it for $0.89, that was kind of an insane markup.

They don't want them loaded up with several devices or run out to the balcony (through a door that slams) or creating a trip hazard for guests or stewards.

 

So they WILL take them from your room if it's overloaded or unsafe, but not otherwise.

We were on the Dream December 28, and my little fan, strip plug, and extension cord was confiscated from my checked bag.
