MilitaryDiscount - how much time

It is for those currently in the military (guard/reserves or active) and those who retired from the military .

It is a great deal... we have saved anywhere from $50 on a 4 day, up to $400 (per person!) on a 7/8 day.....though they only sell a certain number of cabins at the reduced rate on any given sailing (some sailings do not have the discount ~98% do...)

If you can get a copy of the DD214--which you can find online -fill it out and get a certified copy of it. That is waht you will need for the Miltary discount.

BUT some cruises are for people in the Military- some are for anyone who served..and others-- the discount does not apply.

Depends on the cruise week CHuck. My husband served in the Military many moons ago- I inherited his DD214- I can use it on some cruises. (for a considerable amount of savings)

My DH was in Vietnam and also wounded there. He was only actually in the service for less than 2 yrs. because of a medical discharge. His status is permanently retired. I don't know if being a disabled veteran had anything to do with it but we got a $300 discount on an inside cabin.

Also the first part of July Carnival had friends and family military promo going on. It said that you could book up to 3 cabins with the military discount. I called my Carnival PVP and she took $220 off two of our sons cabins using the military discount.

If you do a search on this board for military discount you will find lots of information, but this is what I have understood (DH is active duty). The military discount for Carnival is for active duty, retired, or any veteran serving at least 2yrs with an honorable discharge.

I know for a fact that you get it if you served 2 years and were honorably discharged. I also think you get it if you served in a war zone PERIOD. A hal rate TA could tell you, The rates are awesome, but going fast. I got a rate of 329 for the Glory 4A gty plus tax, it worked out to be $751 and change for ME AND my WIFE. Gotta love it. i have to pray now for good weather.

As long as you can get the DD214 which you would go through your local VA office. My PVP had mentioned this. If he has a current ID card you can get a copy and fax it over to them. Also if you're getting more then one room, for the whole month of July you can book up to 3 rooms as long as one of the passengers is military. We are saving about $1000 on two cabins! We're sailing on the Miracle Nov. 13th.

We booked our cruise directly through Carnival. We had to email/fax them a copy of his DD214 or Military ID. Since my husband is retired we scanned and emailed his military ID card. We got a 7 night western carribean on the elation, 6A guarantee for a total of $867 (including taxes, port charges). You gotta love it......

i faxed my dh discharge papers to our TA which sent them to carnival, we got a 4a for $395@ and a 6 deck upgrade. my pal cant find his,i printed a form off the veterns web site, i cant remember which one right now, all his info went to the vets adm and i printed a form with his bar code info on it and required a signature and another to varify that is his signature. (naturally) teehee. he should have a copy anytime in the next 1-6 weeks. he served 6 months regular army and 5 yr reserves. he has the rate also. so i sure dont know if one had to serve a certain amount of time but an honorable is certain.

I am getting a $600 discount, on an upcoming Destiny cruise.

The Carnival rep only had two questions:

1. Ever served in the military?

2. Honorably discharged?

Nothing about length of time served, etc. It has been 33 years, since I served.

She asked for a copy of the DD214; I said I didn't have one. Just fax'd another form. Carnival immediately approved the $600 discount, off a balcony cabin-Verandah deck.

Yes, CCL knows, that most of the $ does come back to them in the end anyway (most of my savings ends up in the Casino.. ). I am surprised other lines do not have similar deals!

I have cruised with Celebrity and RCCL; neither offerred any discount.

In the competitive cruise market, you would think that the other cruise lines

would offer some incentives?

Like you said, the money comes back to Carnival. Entice you with your first Carnival cruise, and you might be a life long cruiser, with them?

I wouldn't have known about the military discount, if the Carnival Rep hadn't mentioned it.

So, the discount varies by each cruise? My DH was in the Air Force for 10 years and served in Desert Storm. I guess I better get with my TA before we book our spring 2006 cruise. A discount is a discount.

The military discount is the only reason we're able to take our vacation. We're on the Elation on 10/30 with a oceanview room, for $865 total for the two of us. Can't beat that with a stick, and with our savings we're going to go on the excursions we wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise.

I sent an email to "Uncle Bob" thanking him for his fabulous program.

And, for what it's worth, my husband (who is deployed currently) took a photo of his ID and his driver's license, I blacked out any overly-confidential information on either, and e-mailed them to my PVP. Our discount was approved the next day.

My husband who was in Army National Guard and has a honorable discharge 7 years ago qualifies for the discount. We just have to supply a copy of the DD-214

Just make sure when you give/fax or whatever the copy of the DD214 to blacken out the Social Security#, they don't need it, and it's not something you want out there, not that I don't trust carnival but that's to important to give up. My TA said don't worry if you wouldn't have done it, I would have.

The military discounts are great, and the discounts vary by sailing date/ship/catagory.
