I know I can request the price change but my question is since I booked with the $50 deposit will they require me to pay the bigger deposit if I ask for the price drop. I'm not sailing until Dec so I'm not wanting to put more money down right now. But the cruise has dropped $100.

I have not experienced this myself, but from what I understand....yes, you will have to pay the difference. And also from what I've heard, they don't always tell you this and people have had their bookings cancelled because they didn't know.

Yes you have to pay the full deposit when requesting a price change. They may not tell you this when requesting the change but as the other person said they will cancel your booking that's what happened to me.

Maybe, maybe not.

I'm on a reduced deposit now ($100, not $50) and I submitted a price drop about 45 days ago that wasn't part of a reduced deposit rate. The price drop was granted and they've never requested full deposit.

Yes you will have to pay the full deposit. I did it once and the CSR told me no I didn't have to. When I hung up with her I checked my booking and sure enough the rest of the deposit had to be paid that day.

They won't request you pay it, they will just flat out cancel your booking. There have been plenty of angry rants on here of that exact thing happening to people. They didn't have any warning, their booking was just gone.

This language was in the confirmation I received for my booking under the current Early Saver + $50 Deposit offer:

Changes made to the reservation may result in removal of the $50 pp deposit offer.

When I booked the cruise I told my PVP that I didn't want any changes to cause issues with the deposit. He did tell me that the reduced deposit offer goes away if the rate that is price matched doesn't include the same reduced deposit.

Much like the loss of OBC or Casino Cash when a lower fare is price matched that doesn't include that benefit, if you price match a reduced rate that doesn't include a reduce deposit you may be required to increase your deposit to the amount required for the new rate.

Thanks everyone. That's what I was worried about. Guess I will wait. If it drops enough that it's worth it I'll pay the extra deposit but now it's not.

You can however change to another cabin of the same category if a better one becomes available and your booking will remain 50% deposit:)

I booked the Breeze for November with the $50 deposit rate.

My partner and I intended on paying the cruise off when taxes came in.

3 days ago our category dropped $40pp ($80) and they told me what I had to pay the remainder due on the deposit balance.

Because it's an 8 day cruise our deposit was $600 (for 2 people) and we had only paid in the $100, so we owed $500.

I paid the $500 and then they took $80 (for the price drop) off the remaining balance.

I agree, yes have to come up with the full deposit. I emailed my PVP asking for a price drop for a booking, and instead of emailing the booking information back to me showing the reduced rate like she always does, she called me. She then told me that I would have to pay the full deposit, which I did. It was worth it to me to do so, we saved a good bit in the price drop.

I booked with the $50 deposit also ..... they had told me about the entire deposit being due if there was a price drop so last Friday we went ahead and paid the entire deposit for both of us going.....now just hoping I can get in on some price drops;)

I hope you continue to check your cruise online. MANY times they dont request it and the email someonhow never gets to the person and the cruise is cancelled.

I am sure you checked already but since you said the never 'requested' it, I wanted to make sure you knew that they dont always tell you.

Thanks.

My last 2 cruises were ES w/reduced deposit. Both times I got prices drops w/o reduced deposits and both times I was notified via email that I needed to pay the full deposit (it wasn't immediate). I wasn't notified with the price drop return acceptance.

It also showed up on my online booking at Carnival.com. I know I had a least 4 days to make payment.

Their system worked as expected for me. I know some have had problems but my guess is at least 50% of those issues are on the end of the consumer, not Carnival.

You want the drop than you pay full deposit.

  • 1 month later...

I've never booked ES before so not really sure how it works. If we get a price drop before final payment what is the best way to apply for them? If it's calling does anyone know what the international telephone number for Carnival is (I live in the UK but booked through the US site?)

And if we get price drops after final payment and get OBC, do we loose it if we don't use it all?

If the current promotion has the $50 deposit offered, you won't. I've switched 3 times to different promos for either onboard credits or fare decreases and had no issue. I just simply called the 1-866 #.
