Cashing Out OBC

I have a question we ended up with more OBC than we will probably use. I know I have read people cashing in out at the casino how do you do this? I know with OBC you use it or loose it.

Just go to the casino and ask for cash to be charged to your SeaPass account. Whatever you ask for, they will charge an extra 5%.

You won't necessarily "lose" all unused OBC, depending on the source of the OBC. On our last cruise we had over $400 in OBC. Over $300 was due to price drops. This is refundable if unused. The last night of the cruise we went to guest services and "cashed out" over $200. No service charge like in the casino.

OBC from a Next Cruise Certificate is NOT refundable. Not sure about other types. On our cruise, the 1st $100 we spent was applied to the NCC and then whatever was left after that was refundable (because it was a result of price drops).

If you need suggestions on how to use the OBC, I would suggest eating at specialty restaurants that you might not ordinarily eat at. We tried Chops for the 1st time and really enjoyed it, although it is not something we would usually spend the money on.

Also, we waited until we were onboard to book shore excursions, using OBC instead of having to pay for them ahead of time. Those can add up fast, too.

Of course, there are lots of other options, but if you take advantage of having the credit and splurge a little on this trip, you can probably end up using most of it.

If it's "refundable" (you got it with points or a price drop) you can go to the customer service desk and get your money.

If it's "non-refundable"....spend it somehow!

They will use the "refundable" OBC first...just so you know! They do NOT want to be able to give you money back, if they don't have to.

I had heard exactly the opposite regarding which was used 'first'....

Effective May 17, 2010, after final payment no OBC is issued for price reductions. If a price reduction occurs before final payment, your cruise fare is repriced.

Our experience has been that non-refundable OBC has always been used first followed by refundable.

I know how much refundable OBC is available to us and if it's not all used, I have had no problems going to Guest Services on the day prior to debarkation and asking for cash to settle our account. It could go on our credit card, but then we lose double points.

That is what I trust will be the case for us as well should that occur...

Usually OBC from Visa Points and travel agents are refundable.

FWIW, last month on the Legend, OBC from our travel agent was not refundable. Use it or lose it. Never a problem for us though, lol. Also, you can go to guest services and transfer some to another cabin if you wish.

That is incorrect- The non-refundable credit is always used first.

Sometimes the travel agent OBC is from a group booking, or some other Royal promo, and in that case it's not refundable.

You cannot cash out shareholder credit.

That's interesting because I had no trouble cashing out $50 of shareholder credit at the casino for $52.50.

If you want to give extra tips, there is a form you can get at guest services to add tips and it will be charged to your Seapass account. You need either individual names or you can also group tip. I've been on cruises where the Diamond or Diamond plus events have been chaotic with a large group of servers, so I have tipped the "Diamond Bar Service Team" with this form.

Yes, we did the exact thing and set aside part of the proceeds for add'l gratuities. The balance turned into a $200 win at slots.

You can cash out any type of OBC from the Casino, but you are going to pay a 5% fee. If you had tried to get that $50 from Guest Services you would have been denied.

Don't you mean $47.50

I would love it if I could cash out all my OBC and RCI paid me a premium.:D
