Traveling on the Pacific Princess to French Polynesia in a few weeks. Since

many of the nights are in Ports, will the Internet services work or

will they work only while at sea?

Thanks for your answers specifically geared to Princess.

Have not done the Pacific, but the ship wifi has been on in other ports, but not ship cell service. It may vary according to specific port regs, but I would expect it to be available in most cases.

I've been on the Pacific for many weeks. When internet is good, it's good no matter where you are.

Ships use Satellite Internet, totally different than land based internet. Ships internet is ALWAYS ON. It is slow, however. As mentioned above, it will run slowest at peak times. If you have mobile devices, here's a hint .. Ask the crew where to get free internet in port, usually nearby coffee joints and such. This will be faster and will save your minutes to use on the ship. :)

Recently on the Ocean Princess, HI to Tahiti, with 5 days at sea. Internet was slow, but worked fine for us. DH brought his lap top so we could log on from our room to check things back home. I had to re-set the wifi connection a couple of times, other than that, never a problem in port or at sea.

There are some places -- like Japan -- that require satellite

communications be disabled in their territorial sea.

One time while docked at Skagway, AK, there was no satellite internet available due to the low tide. The mountains blocked the line-of sight.
