JustMeandTheSea Posted March 22, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 22, 2014 Hello. Our family may be newbies to Norwegian starting in January on the Norwegian Getaway. On Carnival, there was always one or two elegant nights. Could you please explain the dress code on Norwegian? We will only be eating in the free restaurants if that makes a difference. Thank you! TrumpyNor Posted March 22, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 22, 2014 (edited) Hello. Our family may be newbies to Norwegian starting in January on the Norwegian Getaway. The good thing about freestyle cruising is that it is also "freestyle" regarding dressing up or not. There will be one or two nights during your cruise that they call "dress-up-or-not-night" or "Norwegians Night Out". Those are the nights were more people dress up, it is maybe 50-50 who dresses up and who doesn't. It is entirely up to you! If you have dinner at the buffet restaurant, you can wear shorts and a t-shirt. In the MDR you can just dress nice casual and you are good to go, usually the dress code is a little more "formal" in the largest of the MDR and in Le Bistro, but a nice pair of jeans and a shirt/blouse/nice t-shirt gets you in there as well. But formal on NCL is not the same as formal on other cruise lines - casual or smart casual is "enough"... Both my husband and I like to dress up more "formal" (not tux/long dress but suit a& tie and cocktail dress) on a couple of the cruise nights, just because we rarely do that back home. But like I stated above - it is entirely up to you. Whatever you choose, you will not be "alone".... :) Edited March 22, 2014 by TrumpyNOR

Rare lattegirl10 Posted March 22, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 22, 2014 Dressing up is optional. Just bring a sweater or long sleeves it's cool on board.

NCL dress codes are very liberal. You will be welcome in all the restaurants if you wear slacks and a button shirt (men) and for women, about anything decent except shorts --and in some cases pedal pushers may be restricted. thephillykid Posted March 22, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 22, 2014 We leave next week and I understand that a golf shirt and khaki's are the most that I will have to get dressed up in any restaurant, are we correct?
