vball09 Posted July 27, 2005 #79 Share Posted July 27, 2005 Have fun NOT waiting in line at Disney.......:oLast time I was there with my family it was full to capacity. They stopped letting people come into the park. I just love waiting in line 1 hour for the 10 min. "It's A Small World" ride or "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride. I guess until I have children of my own I would rather wait in line to have a fruity drink on the deck of a cruise ship.:)
Oma24boys Posted July 27, 2005 #80 Share Posted July 27, 2005 I am sorry you had such a bad experience...I have a question though, did you use a travel agent? If you did I am sure your agent would have answered many of your pre-cruise questions...
Krittie67 Posted July 27, 2005 #81 Share Posted July 27, 2005 I'm not sorry you had a bad time. What do you expect when there is 2900 passengers in one place. You expect to wait in line and if you don't want to wait then you find an alternative, different place to lie in the sun, different place to eat..etc. You must wait in line at Disney - I know I have even with the fast pass, even going early to the park, to get seating at one of the resturants - you wait! Your on vacation where to you need to go in a hurry.. take the time to smell the roses. I have been to hotels that have had serious issues, but still I manage to have a good time - maybe its the company I keep. I do know that when I am on vacation I expect to pay for extras - I do my homework so that I am not so surprised.
TMWOOD1012 Posted July 27, 2005 #82 Share Posted July 27, 2005 wastedtime.......MAYBE YOU SHOULD BLAME YOUR SISTER-IN-LAW! If you couldn't find one good thing to talk about on your cruise that's a shame. I think someone posted on this site once..."Vacation is what you make of it". Sounds like you let the boarding process ruin your whole trip. It just started there. If you think Disney isn't a ripoff you must have more money than you know what to do with. I don't think babysitters are free there either..unless you bring your mother-in-law. 8) Hope your next $4000 vacation makes you happier. As for me, I'm sailing for the 16th time in October. Bon Voyage!!
Disneycruiser#1 Posted July 27, 2005 #83 Share Posted July 27, 2005 and I thought I was grumpy! I just returned from a Super Wal-mart and back to school supplies shopping for a second grader in a heat index of 119 in eastern NC. We are still waiting for my husband to return from Iraq (again)and we leave for our Glory cruise in one week........do you know how hard it is for a just turned 4 and 7 year old to be this close to his return and but still not know when it will be.....and trust me unhappy person look at my log in name. I love WDW and DCL but I just spent a week at WDW over Spring Break with a million other folks and I would take a week of buffet lines over a $8.00 hot dog any day. Sounds like you should have done your research about what was included as no cruise is ever "all inclusive" and blame yourself or the relative that your traveled with! Goodness and I try not to flame but give me a break.......

WastedTime Posted July 27, 2005 Author #87 Share Posted July 27, 2005 Yup there are lines, yup there are additionl costs, yup there are rude people, yup, yup, yup. First of all, I never wrote that I expected casinos to be free. I stated the extra costs, often times, hidden costs of a cruise which some people may not be aware of. I listed all I could think of, casinos being one of them, for those who didn't know. It seems all the "experts" chimed in to knock it however. I know you didn't write that but I'm responding to those who didn't read my post and decided to derive what they wanted out of it. I'm talking about EXTRA costs that basically make up the bulk of your fun and saying to expect to pay them because I didn't think there would be so many. I NEVER stated I didn't expect any, I stated I never expected as many as there were. Why don't some of you READ? No, there was no note on the water bottle. Yeah, I checked the TV for my bills, I'm not stupid. Some people at my table who cruised 5x however, were not aware they were being charged. I suppose you'll call them stupid too. Oh well... As for the travel agent thing, read the posts, one person said I should have went to them. That's where I 'got it' from. I also said Pete SOUNDED like a travel agent or worked for carnival, I never said he was one. How the hell would I know? One thing I do agree with you on, is many of the people were rude and they were the guests, not the staff. One little girl, about I'd say 8, closed the door on the elevator and gave my son the finger so he couldn't get on it. I imagine some of you would find that hilarious too. I think it's indicative of the caliber of people I saw in general. Pushy, shovy, disrespectful, greedy and outright belligerent. Pretty much like some of you here. And judging by what I see here, I'm not surprised in the least. Most of you are rude. One would think you owned stock in carnival the way you refuse to allow anyone with an opinion other then your own. I can handle the wait lines. What I don't appreciate is such overbooking of a ship just to make a buck that degenerates the quality of the vacation. If you want to subjugate yourselves to that type of vacation, have fun. I don't think it was necessary. If I ever do cruise again, I will pay the money to avoid such nonsense and grief. I think spending $8k is better then spending $4k and getting nothing but aggravation, period. It wasn't the money. It was getting aggravation for money and that was my point, not what some of you twisted it to say. As far as Disney's lines go, haven't you heard? There is now a separate line for hotel guests and another line for park guests. It's a lot better then it ever used to be and moves along quite efficiently, I was there last year. Oh and I found the abuse sites regarding Matre'D's, labor, the whole nine yards, including this site, while trying to find what type of illnesses I should have expected on that ship since all of us are still recovering from "something" we're not quite sure of. One of them being, http://www.cruisejunkie.com/ - go educate yourself instead of telling me the same? During that research, google somehow chose this site and I stopped here to describe my experience of what I didn't know before I went. And no, it's never fully described on anything you'll read because I doubt any advertiser would actually tell you it all no matter what some of you say here. The more I read about this cruise nonsense, including the labor shop fiasco of it, the more I'm not impressed. But go ahead and continue to support it if that's what you're into. It's a free country but I won't see you there. I like CLEAN and pleasant people and things to be around. You can continue ripping apart my words with further insults in defense of your pro-cruise stance, but honestly, I'm not gonna come back to read them. I have better things to do with my time. Thank you. P.S. - My sister-in-law admitted it was her worse cruise out of 6 cruises thus far. Enough said.
mared1 Posted July 27, 2005 #88 Share Posted July 27, 2005 Wherever you go on your next vacation, I hope you have a great time! And I hope your travel agent explains more to you. That should have been done up front when you were getting ready to book the cruise so there wouldn't be so many surprises. Cruising isn't for everyone! I, for one, enjoy it! It does get kind of old to be hit up all the time to buy things, but I just go with the mind set that I am not going to buy anything. I love just sitting in the sun and relaxing. I find the shows to be entertaining and enjoy watching some of the games (Newlyweds, etc.)

I think you are getting Disney confused with Universal. Universal Studios offers this perk for their Hotel guest, not Disney, Disney has Fast Pass. Our family is taking our first cruise together in August. My husband and I went on one 22 years ago, our daughters have been on several, and it will be the first for our son. We are also traveling with my sis and her husband and my mom. Right now I am trying to figure out what our travel agent has done as our invoices are all jumbled and wacky. I am very interested in charges of which I may not be aware. We are leaving in less than a month and I have received no information, pamplets, or booklets as of yet. However, since I realize the importance of doing research in advance of a trip, I found this site and have spent hours reading here. Drinking a four dollar bottle of water every day sounds like exactly something my son would do. And in defense of Wasted Time, when you are using a travel agent, you should expect to be informed by that agent. All the information that I have found so far has come from this site and on line research. None has come from Carnival or the travel agent. At this point I have had no infromation provided on anything, including additional costs, S&S cards(which I read about here), automatically being charged for tips, location of the dock,or anything. As far as WDW goes, you had better do your research before heading there too. And there are not separate lines for park guests and resort guests at WDW. There are fast passes that are available to all guests who read the hand outs or ask questions.
JOANN226 Posted July 27, 2005 #97 Share Posted July 27, 2005 I was on the Legend 7/8-7/16 this was my second cruise, I check things out before I book, and I knew from last year what is included and what is not. I didnt sit it my room and it didnt cost me anything to participate in the game shows, to watch the shows, go into the piano bar and you dont even have to have a drink, we went in a group and we would pop in for an hour or so and we were never pressured to buy anything. I dont know where you got the idea that it is all inclusive. You get your food, and you get beverages for free. I found the meals in the buffet and the dining room to be wonderful, but then I dont go looking for negatives I focus on the positives. I experienced the List and I still want to cruise. Some people are just not ment to cruise and we have to leave it at that. I am sorry that you had such a horrible time, I feel sad for you and your family, we were a group of 9 and we had a wonderful time.
Bsan1221 Posted July 27, 2005 #98 Share Posted July 27, 2005 still didn't expect as many of the charges as we received. It just DOES NOT imply that when you read it. Litewait Posted July 27, 2005 #99 Share Posted July 27, 2005 I know it's 4 grand or more for a week at Disneyland. I took myself and 2 children. Stayed at the Grand Californian (Disney Property), got the 4 or 5 day Park Hopper pass for both Disneyland and Ca. Adventure. When we included meals, souvenirs(SP?),Video games at ESPN Zone in downtown Disney (just like on the ship) it was just over 4 grand, for 3. We certainly did not get the caliber of food or the quantities as you would on a cruise. We got no shows, or down time. I needed a vacation from that vacation. There were lines for every ride and every eatting establishment and prices were ridiculous. My feet were killing me by the end of the week. The bottom line is we did the Disney trip the year before we took out first 7 day cruise on Elation when in was in LA. Afterwards I asked my kids dd (13 then) and ds (7 then) which they would prefer the following year. Disney or another cruise. Without any hesitation they chose another cruise. Mind you we have gone to Disneyland since (for a couple days at a time) but we are booked on our 4th cruise in 35 days and our 5th in April. Never been a contest since. I'm glad, can't stand those mobs at the amuement parks. Happy Cruising, Donna
