MSC changed my cabin!!

We are going on the Spendida in July. Our trip is paid in full. Confirmation received for cabin 11029, per my choice when I reserved. Etickets received and printed. I just happened to look at my MSC reservation page today and see that they have change our cabin to 10087!!! That is a corner balcony, which is larger, but appears to have view only one direction, due to the ship configuration. I have not yet contacted MSC, and I'm looking for feedback on a corner balcony room. There will be 3 of us sharing the cabin (Parents & 21 year old daughter).

Why would they change my room at this point? Especially without letting me know.

Is there anything I can do about it?

Is this actually a better place to be on the ship?

I'm furious right now!!!! Help!!!

Happened to me last year on the Divina. I called my travel agent and they gave me back my cabin.

I prefer 11029 even if 10087 has a huge balcony.

Good luck.

P.S. Any cruise line can change your cabin.

MM42, Thanks for the response. I booked direct on the website, so I will call them.

After posting, I read all the fine print and saw they can change my cabin... grrrrr!

In addition to blocked view due to the bulkhead, this cabin is right by the stairs and elevators vs being across from another cabin.

Thanks for the luck!

In the small print on their website it does say that cabins may be changed prior to a cruise! like MM42 we also had an issue on the same cruise when our booked cabin was changed to a different one, having contacted our TA we were told that our booked cabin had been re sold!! we eventually got one 2 decks down from our original one.

Our TA told MSC to put a note on our booking that we did not want to be moved nor upgraded, seems it worked.

Hope you get sorted out.

Egads. I'd totally give up my puny little balcony for a corner stateroom. Unless of course its one of those ones that has the 2 foot deep balcony. Then not so much.

It isn't a corner stateroom, it is a corner balcony. Same size room, one floor down (no big deal), but you can only see out on one side of the balcony because it's the first room behind the bulkhead and the wall of the ship (not the balcony wall between cabins) is can't be seen around. And most importantly, the room they have us in now is across the hall from the elevators AND stairs.... too much traffic for me!!

It happend to me before final payment.

I had the same kind of cabin on the Poesia once. I loved the huge balcony. Don't worry about the noise. There is a wall on the other side of the hallway. The stairs are behind that wall. I had no problem with the noise.

Thanks again for the info, MM42. I sure would have liked them to bump me up to the YC since they have apparently re-sold a completely paid for cruise!!! That is just wrong, plus they haven't even informed me! I've already printed my luggage tags, etc.... all with the original cabin number! I'm calling them today!

There is a thread about this kind of cabin. You will see the difference between a regular balcony and a corner balcony. If you want privacy and space on your balcony this is a great cabin. Was I happy to have this cabin? Yes. Would I book it again? No, because I like to have my balcony just above the water (like the cabin you booked) and have a 180 degree view of the ship.

OK... I just talked to MSC-USA customer service. (Amazingly I got through with NO wait!!!) Jason, the agent, was great! Apparently, my acct says I was 'upgraded' to this cabin. It's considered an upgrade due to balcony size. I'm looking forward to having a balcony for the first time after 5 cruises, but I'd also like a 180 degree view! (I did tell him I would have preferred an upgrade to the YC!) The ship is sold out, so there is nothing he can do, but if I call back Monday, I can talk to 'inventory control'.

I LOVE cruising and have never had a balcony, and I will have an awesome time regardless!!

MM42, I had seen the thread you sent me yesterday... I even asked if they booked that room and were pleased with it. They haven't yet responded and since its an older post, they may not, but you have given me all the info I needed!!

Thank you for all your info! Happy Cruising!!

You have never had a balcony before? Next time when you get a regular balcony, you will miss this one ;)

I cruised on the Splendida 2 years ago and it's almost the same itinerary. I loved the ship and the itinerary! Enjoy your cruise.

I had one of those balconies on a different class of ship (might have been Orchestra or Musica). I really like it as it was a great little sun trap and more private than a usual balcony (you were only aware of neighbours on one side). I didn't really miss not having the full 180 view, as I appreciated having more space to move around and rearrange the furniture into a different position depending on the angle of the sun. You could still get the full view if you stood at the railing when arriving or departing port.

I've often been in cabins near lifts and you don't get noise form them (perhaps you would in the inside cabins that back on to the stairwell). You may get slightly more traffic past your cabin than your former one but the difference in positions is not significant.

They have changed your balcony from this

To This

Many people try very hard to get the large balcony you have now got and consider it a real plus

MSC probably feel you would be pleased with it.

The image above is of a deck 13 cabin and as such is affected by the deck 14 overhang; this should not be the same for you , as you can see in the image below which shows the corner cabins from deck 13 down to deck 10 ( yoiur deck)

Enjoy you cruise and enjoy the large balcony you now have

Your first balcony 11029 steel hull design. I think the 11087 is better. I will be in Divina on October and i will be the cabin 11087.

Hey Little Rock. We are from Bismarck Lake DeGray. We are on Magnifica August 23. First European cruise. We would like an upgrade. Where do you check if you got one? Our e ticket shows the room we booked.

People usually notice the upgrade either online before the etickets are issued or when they receive their tickets.

If you already have your tickets, chances are you've not be upgraded. Slim chance you may get an upgrade when you get to the port. Not that likely though for that date in the Med that is peak season and there is a good chance the ship is completely sold out.

Hi, Caddo! I had already printed my tickets, boarding passes, etc, then happened to look at my reservation port on MSC website again.... Room had changed! When I called, the MSC agent told me it was an upgrade. Our deck was HUGE and the room was standard balcony, but it was also very large! This was our first European cruise as well. Different than Caribbean for sure, but still great! Casino closes at 2am and much fewer gamblers than Caribbean ships and the only food avail at that time was room service pizza. We were the only American family (me, hub, 21 yr old daughter) on board as far as we could tell and we had a full ship of 4000 passengers (!), but most staff speak some English so it wasn't a challenge. Splendida was beautiful! No complaints at all! Hope you have an incredible experience!!
