Honeymoon - Freedomr - May 18

Recommended Posts

Now that all of my wedding planning is officially done and rechecked and finalized, I can focus on what is important - OUR HONEYMOON.

We are so excited to be going on a cruise. Is there any recommendations for things to do, or any perks that RCI may would indulge us in?

We will be sailing to CocoCay, St Maarten, and St Thomas.

Is this something I would need to ask about on board?

Do you have a travel agent? If so, they can indicate that it is your honeymoon, this way you will be invited to the honeymoon get- together. We had our honeymoon almost 35 years ago  on a cruise to Bermuda and it was the start of our addiction, :)

Congrats and wishing you not only a great time but many years of happiness.

Congrats on your wedding and honeymoon.

The Freedom always holds a special place in our hearts having sailed her twice and love the ease of Port Canavaral.

Try to take the time to walk around, and if able attend some of the shows, the productions are well done.

Enjoy

We actually booked through a perks company my fiance works with and they have been very helpful. I have mentioned it to them already but I'm not sure if they have let RCI know.

We are very excited! I am wondering if it is worth it to try the specialty restaurants or do the main dining rooms have some of the same things?

First, congrats on your marriage!

I love Chops & my husband and I will be spending our anniversary there for dinner. I have gone in the past and had a wonderful experience. He wants to try Portofino so we'll do that as well. I personally think it'd be a great romantic dinner for your honeymoon :)

The specialty restaurants have a different menu than the main dining room. I would look at the menus of the specialty restaurants and see if the menu is to your liking. If I were you, I would ck with the company to see if it is noted on your reservation.

Any other questions, ask away!

The Specialty restaurants are a MUST, IMHO. They do have a surcharge but we loved it.

I assume you are not getting married on the ship, we did. Since we did my wife was still in her dress for the muster drill. People were like "you got married on the boat?" I said once to somebody, " Nope we are actors." But I digress. If you can get a shirt or something that says "Just married" or keep your veil, ppl will remember you. All week we had fun with random ppl coming up to us.

Congratulations. Wishing you a happy cruise and many happy years together.

One of the things I would do is spend some time walking around the outside decks at night -- many places for quiet star and/or sea gazing. The helipad is one. Another of my favorite places is the area on 4 where the circumferential promenade bows out away from the ship. I have posted pictures a couple of times, but if you want me to [and can't find my earlier posts] I would be glad to post one again.

Once again -- enjoy the trip [on Freedom and through life together].

-Look up Le Gallion beach in st Martin. We went there in 2012 after our friends honeymooned on St. Martin and said that was their favorite beach! We are on the same cruise as you and going there this trip too!

- in St Thomas look at the ships excursion for St. John (if you havent been). The one that says tour of national park beaches. U can just ferry to the island. Pay one of the open air cabs and go to the beach for a few hours and then get a cab and the ferry back to the ship!

-Other suggestions: wake up and watch the sunrise on a sea day and then go back to bed!

-Eat at chops.

-Make a list of the bars on the ship and try to have a drink at each of them!

-if y'all have a balcony. Get room service for breakfast most mornings!

Best wishes for a honeymoon you will never forget!

Thank you guys for the awesome suggestions! We are so looking forward to starting our journey together in such an excellent way and the ideas you have provided us with certainly are on our list!

Is booking the specialty restaurants a must before boarding? I'm not sure how those work, as the Carnival ships I have been on didn't have those.

Looking forward to meeting those of you traveling with us!

And thank you for the well-wishes. I am just praying for good weather and safe travels. I've already had a hiccup with our flight plans, but thankfully I have a huge extended family who will be dropping us off in Atlanta.

Agreed. One of my favorite things to do at night is to walk the upper decks. Most passengers are in the casino or a bar or show. You will have the decks almost to yourselves.

Enjoy!

We're just not sure of everything we want to do yet, either in port or at sea. Trying to not do as much planning and more relaxing. :D

How are the bars and casino on Freedom? From what I've seen there seem to be more options of bars/clubs than on Carnival.

Just off Freedom this morning. By all means.....book a specialty restaurant as soon as you get on board. We enjoyed both Chops and Portofino this past week. Chops has the new menu and it was very good.

My daughter and new son in law just sailed away this afternoon on their honeymoon on FOS. DW and I dropped them off(barely in time to board:o). We got home just in time to see them wave from the helipad to the web cam :D Next Sunday we meet them at debarkation, hand them the car keys and my wife and I get on the boat for a much needed rest after all the stress of the wedding. Then they'll return the favor by picking us up the following week ;)My wife says it's my excuse to avoid paying for parking lol. I'll report how their trip went and any perks they received. Congrates on you wedding!

I remember reading a review of the Freedom and the couple had purchased a "romance package". The reviewer was talking about a special romance breakfast that was delivered to their room. You might want to Check that out. congratulations on your marriage.

We are definitely steak people, so I think we may be leaning towards Chops. Is there much of a difference in the pricing or is the same for all specialty restaurants?

996turbos: We are flying from Atlanta to Orlando and then taking a shuttle from our hotel Sunday morning to port so I completely understand about the parking thing. I didn't want to us to be driving the 8 hours the night of our wedding.

Thank you for the well wishes everyone!

You may want to check the Cruise Compass when you board-I just happened to be looking at one from Freedom OTS that someone posted in December 2013, and bottom left corner of the embarkation day mentioned a Honeymooner's special for reservations in the Specialty Restaurants which includes a free drink. Tried to post the link, but cannot.
