I remember seeing something about having to use Pesos while in Mexico. I usually don't convert dollars for a 1 day deal as I don't want to come home with money I can't use. When shopping in the markets, etc. can you use dollars?

I can only confirm for Cozumel that US $ is fine - never used Pesos. Just be sure that any change you receive is also in US $.

Costa Maya, Cozumel, Cancun all take USD

$1 a beer on the Cozumel streets last year no change needed:)

The only time that we had pesos in Cozumel was when we ventured off the Main Street and back to the local market. They gladly took the $US but gave us change in pesos. We were able to use this later in the day.

They will happily take US Dollars in Mexico. :)

Have been in many ports during cruises in Mexico and never a problem with UD$'s...even on a city bus in Puerto Vallarta.

Coconut was $3 on a Cozumel beach far away from the touristy area. Only locals were there.
