No cash at Atlantis

I heard that other than the casino you need to use a credit card to purchase food, drinks, etc. in Atlantis. Does anyone know if they accept Discover card?

No they do not accept Discover.

You have to use a credit card. Make sure your charge card company doesn't charge an additional fee for international charges.

That's what I was thinking because I remember using cash in the casino unless things have changed which they sometimes do.

I wonder if you could get a visa or mastercard gift card prior to going with a few hundred bucks on it. I would feel a bit better than using my personal credit card outside the USA. It's bad enough having to deal with the potential hackers here in the states.

Your liability for charges made on a hacked credit card is effectively zero. What happens if your gift card gets hacked and all the money on it disappears? You can eventually get it restored (just like if your atm/debit card gets hacked), but it's more complicated in the short run.

A prepaid gift card would be a good idea with a low balance but I don't know if they are accepted. With your regular credit card make sure to let the card company know that you will be using it outside the USA so they don't put a hold on it for suspicious activity.

Some prepaid cards are NOT accepted. Check with the bank/company that offers them.

A regular Visa/MC gift card will not be accepted outside the US. Visa does offer a "travel money card". I just purchased one at my AAA office. Normally a 14.95 charge but for members $4.95. Can be used almost anywhere in the world. I'm not comfortable using my personal cards outside the US either.

Thanks, may have to look into one of these to with a low amount on it. That way if it is hacked o stolen, not a lot lost. Have never used my credit card out of the country, just good old Benjamin's which can't be hacked...LOL

Atlantis sells "gift cards" that can be purchased with cash and used throughout the property. You can find them in the gift shops at Atlantis.
