We had no problem at malia. We paid with a credit card so figured if it didn't work wet would cancel the transaction. But we just went back up the escalators and around the corner to the right siren the elevator and off to the beach with not one prOblem.

Was at Melia last week for a few days with my family (end of July). I asked security about the Wyndham (casino) passes and was told that they are no longer sister properties and Wyndham guest are no longer allowed to use the Melia property. He said that he still thinks a lot of people just walk in without being noticed, but he DOES catch quite a few and sends them back to the other property without much of a fuss.

The bracelets are different, so those in charge of the free sports etc should check, but he said some are just lazy and don't.

I think a group of 14 would be noticed.

PS.. I was also told by friends that Wyndham staff have said it was ok to go to melia, but melia doesn't want them.

A few reviews similar to this at Trip Advisor on long check in.. Do folks getting day passes have to wait in the same line as guests checking in.??

My husband and I stayed at Melia for a week. The worst part, was check-in. It took an hour and 40 minutes to checkin. Approximately 20 minutes each person that stepped up to the counter. As I had prepaid in full, I felt there should have been a line for just such a situation as our checkin took all of 5 minutes. Part of the long process is that ever person staying there needs to come to the counter to have a bracelet placed on their wrist to show you are a Melia guest.

Yes. You wait in line. However, not many people are checking in between 8-10am when most day pass people arrive. We waited about 5 minutes. When we left around 3:45, the line was awful for check in. So I'm sure you will be fine unless you are arriving during prime checkin hours.

That is half the reason we actually went to the casino to get day passes. we had already stood in line for at least a half an hour and we're still waiting

Which casino? We emailed and Melia told us they didnt share with the wyndham any more. I guess it would be pretty easy to "walk" over unnoticed but if you were spotted, I would guess they would ask you to leave. Unless that has changed since the week of July 14, 2014.

we were just there. Security told us they turn people away. Wyndham is no longer a "sister" property.

The tickets sold in the casino are for the wyndham property.

We aren't too worried about the check in bc we port at 8am and we will be up and ready to start our day. We had already figured we needed to get there by 9am and especially if we are planning on leaving between 2-3. So hopefully it will go smoothly.

What time did you arrive to stand in line?

ok great so this thread has answered most of my questions. Looks like the cheaper wristband from the casino is out if they are no longer honoring it.

Bummer on the lines at The Melia to get the wristband, but as someone else said we will be headed there before 10am so not many should be checking in to the hotel at that time. I'd think people buying wrist bands would not cause the line to go slow....here is your $30 here is your band kinda thing.

Can any of you that mentioned long lines specify what time of day you were in line?

Anyone who used the #10 Jitney how was that for the return trip to the ship? Is there a bus stop somewhere near the front of the hotel? do they run pretty frequently?

Thanks!

anyone else take the #10 jitney back??

Anyone know how much a taxi from in front of the hotel to the port would be (full taxis as we have 14 people)

We took it there and back. $1.25 each way per person. The bus station is right across from the Melia. No issues. It does pick up locals so if that's an issue, take a cab but it was fine for us. I'm not sure how much for a cab for 14 people is. We had 2 and a round trip cab ride would have been around $30 plus tip.

If you can get a shuttle van from port, it's $5pp.

A regular cab, from the hotel to the port, will cost $15 for 2 ppl. $3 for ea. add'l person in the cab.

It's likely you would need 2 cabs.

Since they are independent, you might be able to negotiate with each.

You shouldn't count out the jitney. It's really not any longer than a cab. Stops are quick, if they stop at all.

We are trying to find some place new to go when we come back to Nassau in November and have seen this place named several times.

I super confused though as to the information I'm reading since there are several mentioning of different places and sharing and different prices and not honoring and they are honoring.... :o

What's the difference in the places? People mentioned getting a pass at the casino. Does the casino have a different property? Isn't it all the same beach?

Also, I read someone mentioned snorkeling here. Is it right from the shore? When I research pictures online, I see some ropes and what might be rocks sticking up in front of the hotel ocean area. Is this where you snorkel? It doesn't look very far out. Is it deep there?

Are there different places you can go to in this area for a beach day? Or is this the main place?

There are a lot of places, Melia, Wyndham(called something else), breezes, sandals, etc. it depends on what you want to pay. Some require all inclusive, some don't. The beach is Cable Beach.
