No more balcony smoking on Carnival

Recommended Posts

Does it really matter if it's an allergy or an irritant if the effect on someone with a sensitivity is the same? When I spend a day at the casino (which happens more often than it should) I have a lot of congestion the next day along with a nasty cough. I quit smoking 8 years ago but have the same reaction now to the smoke in the casino as I did when I was smoking. It's not bad enough to make me stop going though.

No , it does not matter ( feeling crappy is feeling crappy).. Its The allergen topic that has attached itself to everything these days is my only point on the matter .. Its become the go to excuse

for many that do not like something.. A few years ago I had a woman tell me she was allergic to noise ...

I guess I have found my irritant :D

Finally ,, the All mighty dollar will decide how this plays out in the end ;)

I'm really enjoying the comparisons between smoking and obesity and the apparent denial or avoidance of the fact that both are pretty much equally unhealthy. The only compelling difference is that one has the potential to physically affect others, while the other does not.

I honestly don't care what you or anyone else chooses to do. I don't really even like people. But when what they do affects others (no matter the perceived extent of that effect) then that's a problem. To deny this, or couch it in some silly argument about someone being rude is disingenuous.

I quoted your words and asked a question.

Disingenuous? No.

Asking me not to smoke when you are nearby, not rude.

I'll happily comply.

Handing out website links because you don't like XYZ behavior is rude.

I can only hope you don't really act like that in public.

Just to let you know, the odds in cruise ship casinos are much, much worse than AC or Vegas.

Depends on what you are playing...the odds for slots maybe...The odds on card games are the same no matter where you play

Nothing like feeling sorry for yourself! If you smoke in the USA you are in the vast minority. You are making a conscious decision to be a second class citizen. It's not only some peoples opinion on smoking that hurts your cause, now there is a strong government push for people to quit. Like all smokers like to speak of their right to smoke which is true, public and private places have decided they have the right to tell you where on their property you have the right to pollute. This will continue and likely push smokers into smaller spaces. All the people that come on CC and talk of punishing CCL or RCL for their policies by changing lines are quite amusing. :D In a couple more years you will be out of cruise lines to punish because they will all go that way. Oh and by the way if you think by taking your business elsewhere your going to hurt them the joke is on you again. They will succeed and move forward with or without you. We all will for that matter.

What gives you the right to call anyone a 'second class citizen?' You are NO BETTER than anyone else whether they smoke or not!! My god, get over yourself!!

A little consideration goes a long way (in both directions). To each his own. Non-smoker here and I hardilly welcome RCCL and CCL smokers to NCL. Don't blow smoke in my face and I won't chew with my mouth open in the restaurants...

Most of us will make that attempt :) However all bets are off if you should wonder into the designated smoking area - LOL. Personally I have always tried to be considerate of others unless they are rude. I can't stand rude people. If you ask me nicely to not smoke when you are on your balcony or hey can we work out a compromise...No problem. If you make snarky comments or are rude or nasty...sucks to be you :)

YESSSS!

Woo hoo!

Yippy-ki-yea-mutha-smokah!

Carnival is going to be on my first look to book list.

Sionora NCL!

...as far as those who smoke dropping Carnival from their cruise plans, I think way more folks like me will flock to them.

Vast majority of passengers who book cruises from USA departure ports are North Americans. Only 18% of North American adults smoke and that far outweighs the smokers.

Smart business move Carnival!

There is more to a cruise line that it's smoking policies. CCL/NCL=apples/oranges

I did suggest a compromise but you are right, nobody wants to hear it because the "us against them mentality" gets in the way. If the cruise lines would carve out a portion of the balcony rooms to allow for smokers they will all be grouped together which means nobody would be offended. The balcony is my only complaint to the rule, all other places are banned other than the casino and I have no issue with this policy.

And what happens if a non-smoker is looking for a balcony room and the only rooms left are in the middle of the smoking section? What do you do then?

When you can provide 100% proof that my smoking affects others (good luck with that) then we can discuss the issue. Your rudeness is not in question as you have proven yourself to be rude.

Then they would have the same choice as smokers are being given right now. Take it and like it or cruise elsewhere.

Why is limiting choices only acceptable for one group and not the other?

And I also totally agree about the interior sections of the ship. I have no issue not smoking in the dining room or lounges. If I want a smoke inside I can go to the casino.

Maybe cruiselines need to offer 2 separate casino areas (smoking and non-smoking). That would allow smokers a larger area and non-smokers more opportunity to add to the ships revenue also.:D I am a non-smoker who would enjoy this option more if it was provided.

Not an area within an area but separate rooms totally. :)

Maybe because non-smokers have a right to breathe clean air?

True.

Been on both. Enjoyed both. Got slammed with smoke on both.

The differences up to this point between the two have been influentially minimal for me.

IMO, and prob for the thousands of other passengers who have been turned off by smoke while on their balconies, it will definitely influence future cruise booking decisions.

...and vise-versa for smokers I'm sure, but they are the minority. Hence, good business decision Carnival.

CCL/NCL=+1/-1

I applaud the move by CCL & RCI.

Smoking is a choice made by the smoker!

While some of adamantly claim you're not

offensive smokers there are a LOT who are

thus the reason for the change.

I'm sure CCL & RCI thought long and

hard before making this decision.

They didn't say you couldn't smoke

just not on your balcony/stateroom in which it

can and does interfere with someone

else's cruise.

Well said

Maybe because non-smokers have a right to breathe clean air?

Smokers have paid the same amount of money for their experience. And the whole clean air thing outside is truly silly. There are more pollutants in the exhaust of a bus than a puff of smoke at sea.

Look, I am not trying to ruin your vacation. But at the same time, I want to enjoy mine without someone trying to tell me how to do it.

There are more options out there for non-smokers than you can shake a stick at. There are plenty of non-smoking lines. Smokers choices are already seriously limited. Will there be no satisfaction until smokers are pushed entirely out of the market? And if so, why?

All you need to do is to go to evidenced based medical sites such as CINAHL and you will find valid up to date PROOF I am a cardiology nurse practitioner and see it daily. So please get your facts together

Is there going to be a bus parked on the next balcony shooting exhaust my way?

Like the Surgeon General saying that it does?

So now we can discuss the issue right?
