construction on 45

Recommended Posts

The State of Texas Highways Department when issuing construction project

for this phase of I-45, provided for 6 main lanes (3 in each direction)

always be open in the daytime hours.

This provision to provide least interference in traffic interruptions.

Obviously, this precludes accidents.

Also precludes the necessary closures between midnight and 6am for certain necessary construction events..

Sunday mornings should not be a problem!

Remember as in response to your same question on a another board and thread

and to help others:

AT Galveston causeway

DO NOT FOLLOW SIGN on Galveston CAUSEWAY

(Cruise Terminals) and the exit SIGN to HARBORSIDE DR.

DO NOT GET OFF I-45

just past causeway (bridge) ONTO FEEDER STREET

DO NOT FOLLOW SIGN

Stay off Harborside west (back towards I-45) of 22nd !!!!!!!!!

You can access all parking from Broadway approach.

Look up cross streets for lots and turn off Broadway to them,

if you are not dropping off but going direct to lots.

Most all will be located before 25th.

Go to 22nd to drop off bags and cruisers first.

If your dragging bags the entrance at 25th and Harborside... is only a pedestrian entrance/exit.

There is only one vehicular entrance to terminals

and it is at 22nd and Harborside.

With two ships in

Avoid traffic of Harborside

Stay off Harborside on west of 22nd !!!!!!!!!

Stay on I-45 straight into town,

which HW and street name changes to Broadway Blvd.

and stay straight to 22th past statue at 25th

and turn left on 22th

and go ten blocks directly to and cross Harborside,

which is location of entrance to terminals.

OR on Broadway past 22th to 23rd 24th or 25th

Left 10 blocks to Harborside

Left on Harborside back to 22th

right on 22th entrance to terminals.

For further reference the front door at Fishermans Wharf Restaurant on port is also at location of entrance at 22nd to terminals.

So I should not use the GPS that I planned on bringing along for the drive

We live in Galveston!

and often as favor pick up and deliver friends (cruisers and crew)

from/to the terminals.

A GPS doesn't allow for circumstances.

Use it if you like!

When TWO SHIPS are in port,

the "single" left turn lane backs up at great distances badly at light

turning from Harborside from west onto 22nd/into terminals

(see earlier map)

Avoid Harborside to the west is my advice.

They have been working on that freeway for 50+yrs and still cant finish it:p

It seems like they are doing construction on the roads everywhere in Houston right now.

Just give your self extra time and take a deep breath.

Last time we drove down(6weeks ago) it took almost 2 hrs. I can usually drive from Bush/IAH in a little over an hour.

We might have to drive down, for sailaway cocktails @HH tomorrow, just to see if it has improved any:D
