Pam in CA Posted August 11, 2005 #12 Share Posted August 11, 2005 While I love reading or listening to the News, they often use terminology that's meant to grab attention and are a little short on accuracy or knowledge of the cruise industry. It's not uncommon for cruiselines to skip or miss a port, particularly in the Middle East, due to political unrest or State Dept. warnings. I was on a Princess cruise where Istanbul was substituted for Israel. Caracas, Venezuela, has been off the Caribbean itinerary for a couple of years now. The main purpose of these changes is passenger safety. I'm sorry that the Grand Princess had to skip Kusadasi (Ephesus). This was one of my favorite ports on my cruise. But I'm glad they are getting to Rhodes which we had to miss due to weather.
