Is there a rental car place near the Vancouver cruise terminal (Canada Place?) that also has a return location at the train station -- both open on Sunday, with the train station location open until at least 4 pm? Also posting on the Vancouver forum. Thanks

The rental cars will all be in the downtown close to Canada Place . Are you referring to BC Rail , Via Rail or Amtrak? BC Rail station is different from the other two. It is located in an industrial section of North Vancouver .

Last year when we got off the boat at Canada Place, there was a National Car rental podium and took the car right from the parking garage at the Canada Place port. They even escorted us to our car in the garage. It was super convenient but more expensive due to the location.

Ok, thanks. We have Amtrak tickets back to Seattle. What I am wondering is if there are convenient car rental places at Canada Place that are open on Sunday with a return spot at or very close to the Amtrak station in Vancouver. I've found a couple Hertz places, but they are closed Sunday, or the one that shows near the Amtrak station closes at noon on Sunday and our train leaves around 5, so returning a car at noon would not do us any good. We just want to go to Granville Island and Chinatown, so maybe cabbing it would be easier.

If there's one place in Vancouver I would strenuously recommend people never to drive to, it's Granville Island! Limited parking, one way streets, pedestrians EVERYWHERE often just walking straight out into traffic (not too dangerous because I've never seen a car get up to faster than walking pace during the summer...)

I'd suggest stashing your bags at the pier with Priority Baggage (Pacific Central baggage storage only opens at noon on Sundays), then walking or cabbing straight down Hornby Street and onto one of our little ferries that pootle around on False Creek. When you're done on Granville, board the little ferries again and head for the Casino stop at the east end of False Creek - walking into Chinatown from here is easy and most importantly avoids any risk of you wandering the wrong way and ending up in one of our less salubrious neighbourhoods... cabs are also constantly available at the casino.

A Day Pass on Aquabus will run you $15 per person ($13 if Seniors); if you just want to get to & from Granville Island then the cash fares work out to $9 per person ($3.50 from Hornby, $5.50 to Plaza of Nations) - cash fares are bargains for Seniors at almost half price, total $11 for 2 people on both these routes combined.

National as noted in an earlier post was in Canada Place this year but it's anyone guess who will be there next year...however National does have a location in the adjoining Pan Pacific Hotel.

All of the large rental companies are located within in 6 to 7 blocks of Canada Place and all will pick you up and shuttle you to their downtown locations...except Thrifty who will pay your cab fare by way of a credit to your contract. When finished with your car you it will be about a $12 to $15 cab ride to the Pacific Central Station that Amtrak uses (don't try to find the Pan Pacific station).

With that...unless you are heading off to see someone or some place out of the city a rental car is really not recommended. Vancouver is becoming less and less car friendly by the month. Even as a native Vancouverite who worked downtown and drove daily to my office for almost 40 years....today I have sweaty palms when I drive around in the city I know very well. You also have parking fees at every location and of course fuel costs. My advice for sightseeing is to check your luggage at Canada Place or a nearby hotel and take a HOHO. If you are going directly from Canada Place to the Pacific Central Station .... take a cab again it will be less than $15.
