Ship's time or real time?

I have recently had a very nice cruise on a ship around Europe from and to Southampton. Many of you will know that European time is one hour ahead of the time in the UK but during the entire 10 day and 5 port cruise we remained on UK time. When we arrived in the port we were reminded of the time difference and asked not to change our watches. I've never known this happen before and it worked quite well in truth.

I have read of this happening before, and it was cited as a reason why some people missed the ship's departure - they were checking clocks around them instead of their own watches with ship's time.

One advantage would be that if you want to eat lunch at a restaurant, you wouldn't be fighting the everyday crowd; you would be there at a different time.
