Stay tuned for cabin info...

BTW if you stay at the CY or Hyatt..there is a little, very little, Cuban coffee shop like 2 doors from Hertz...close to CVS. Go early...gets full fast and ONE lady does it all...waitress and cook. Guava pasteles and cafe con leche. Heaven. No pic. Hungry....

2 eggs...ham...cuban toast and coffee for under 5 bucks...

Cant remember the name but it is just past La Granja....

You're welcome.

Good morning and welcome back to Live from NCL Getaway! Today is finally Getaway Day! I’ve been looking forward to this day for almost a year. As I said earlier, this is a birthday cruise for me (and the Aunt) . Originally I was thinking a collection of assorted friends and relatives would sail the 5 nighter Oasis of the Seas voyage in late October right after the trans Atlantic. That didn’t work out well, so then it was going to be Breakaway the same week….and THAT fell apart….so, I said what the heck, you can just go solo, so I decided that was what I would do. Wound up booking this rather late, and adding my Aunt along just a very short time ago, so the two of us will have fun, and those who aren’t here, are, well, back home at work!! [Note to those who aren’t here: I will happily accept gifts right up through the end of November. (I’m in retail, long vacations in November are frowned upon, hence the October date, but I digress.)]

I woke up and rolled down to the lobby in search of some wake up juice: coffee. Luckily the Courtyard proudly serves Starbucks and as a Marriott Rewards Platinum member, I get to have…drumroll… a FREE coffee! 1125’s favorite word is free! With my coffee properly ‘seasoned’, I set off to take a walk over to the Intercontinental and Bayfront Park for a photo op! It’s a lovely, hot sunny day and I was glad I took a walk. On the way back, I popped into a little Cuban coffee shop in search of breakfast. Suffice it to say, I was thrilled to find my favorite guava pastry and a cup of café con leche. ewaHea 1125 is a happy girl!

We will be gathering our stuff and heading over to the pier in the next 30 minutes or so. The next report should be from the ship!

Here are a few images from this AM!

I will answer questions as I see them, if I don’t get to you, no worries! I may have missed it and I’ll do my best to get an answer! See you all shortly!

Ahhh…..

The bon voyage yumminess...

PS...internet is NOT by the mega..giga..beta...kilo...bite. It is a per minute package. Mildly annoying but I will work with it....

I will post daily....and will post in port...was hoping for a different type of package....oh well...

Welcome back! Finally we are aboard! After gathering up all our stuff, and checking out, we took a taxi over to Port Miami where we checked in and waiting until boarding started. Cab fare was just about $11. Quickly dropped off our bags with the porter and headed to check in, which was quick and painless.

We waited maybe 30 minutes or so until close to 11 when boarding began. Group 1 if anyone is curious! Walked around briefly and headed to O’Sheehans for a quick snack. After attempting to get the iConcierge working and walking around a bit more, cabins were ready!

I booked a balcony guarantee and was happy to be assigned a family balcony. These cabins are located in close proximity to Splash Academy. Sadly, I have been told that I am too old to attend. (ha ha ha!) I will be interested to see how well we can make the smaller-than-I-am-used-to closet space work, but I am sure we will adapt. This cabin seems a little bigger than other balconies but it could be an optical illusion. The balcony is small, but it will be very nice to be able to have a little room to relax!

Hopefully the iConcierge will work soon. And, the TV is having issues as we are unable to access the menu function. Two cabin attendants couldn’t fix it, so we are awaiting the technician. Again, I am not sure how big of an internet package I will purchase, likely a small one, so I may not post as many photos as I had hoped. We’ll see……

Illusionarium tonight! That should be a lot of fun! Here are a few photos from this afternoon-haven’t really taken a whole lot as yet. I prefer to have photos with as few other guests as possible!

Hello land-locked CCers! Welcome back to Live from Getaway! Sorry I didn’t post last evening but it was a long day and I was just too tired. Let’s recap the evening!

Dinner was at Illusionarium which is included on the 1st night only if you have the UDP. Our reservation was at 5:30 and we were promptly seated at a long table on the floor, about 2 rows from the front. Pretty good seats except for the rather tall person in front of me, whose head was often in the way! Grr! Oops The show was truly amazing and I still wonder how the illusionists do all those tricks! Where DID the half dozen or so doves come from?

The food was pretty good too! Prosciutto, mozzarella and tomato salad; surf and turf (a couple shrimp and a filet, with sides) and a dessert sampler. All in all, the first dinner on the ship was great! And I made it through the whole show. I generally pop in, see a portion of the entertainment and move on. So much to do, so little time! My only complaint is that the chairs were not comfy and I was seated where 2 smaller tables met thus making for an uneven eating surface (that was a pain) and that I was not on an end of the table. All in all, the fact that Illusionarium was such a great dinner and show experience minimized my lack of comfort.

I am happy to say that the casino was a little 1125 friendly. My small donation lasted about 30 minutes. Yay. Sadly, once I returned to the cabin, it was lights out and I fell asleep with MSNBC news in the background.

This AM, I managed to wake up before the sun and I commenced my morning sojourn! A smattering of people was out and about, jogging (really? My idea of cruise exercise is doing 12 ounce curls with an Americano! ;) having coffee, and get this: staking out claims on deck chairs!! Oh the humanity! People, you are on VACATION, you’re seriously awake at 5:45 AM?

Breakfast today was a nice sandwich at Flamingo Grill: eggs, peppers and onions (just a few) and some hash browns! Very yummy, and the papaya and peach pastry was not too shabby either!

Today will be spent doing what I normally do on a cruise: NOTHING! I’ve elevated doing nothing to a science. That being said, I will endeavor to do SOMETHING if only to experience NCL more fully.

Meg’s Musings: The AC/lights/keycard in the slot thing makes me nuts! I did get a lesson in controlling the AC though, and I stuck a grocery-store card in the slot to keep the lights going-I was charging my devices and needs the power on when I leave. The outlets by the desk are safety plugs I suppose. It’s a supreme pain in the seat to try to plug things in. Sometimes the little doors don’t want to open. My cabin attendant suggested he would get me a power strip or something. Finally, the bed is, IMO, a little hard. Putu will try and find a foam topper or something for me. I had a really hard bed on Grandeur of the Seas as well. So far, believe it or not, Carnival wins the comfy bed contest!

I’d forgotten how much I love sailing from a port that’s actually WARM! As soon as the ship is out of the port area and into the ocean, it’s BLUE! As much as I love the convenience of Cape Liberty, NYC or even Baltimore, sailing from Florida or San Juan is the best! It’s already warm!!

Watching Samba class: let me just say that I booked “Burn the Floor” while watching the Samba class…the male dancer moves like Maks on DWTS and ladies, he is rather easy on the eyes *blush*.

See you all soon!

PS, seems that photobucket barfed...will try pix later... GRR

Thanks for all the nice comments.....still working out the kinks!
