AMA cancels Russian River cruises for 2015

I personally think it was a wise decision considering the political situation but I wonder if bookings were also down. I have been to Russia twice and enjoyed both my trips but I would not return under the present political situation.

I was thinking the same. Because if it is dangerous shouldn't sailings be cancelled immediately? Perhaps they suspect sanctions imposed by the U.S. Government to punish Russia?

We went ahead and cancelled. We looked at the options before booking with AMA and chose them for a reason. We just don't have the comfort level at this point.

We went with AMA in Russia this year and the AMAKaterina was only about 2/3 full. We heard that the cruise a week ahead us had even less people.Never felt at all uncomfortable in Russia, though. It was a fabulous trip. And, frankly, having the boat less than full was great from a passenger standpoint.

 

Attended a travel seminar last week and an AMA rep was present. He said that AMA had parked the AMAKaterina for 2015 due to embargoes and concerns about supplying the boat.

I would not do a Russian river cruise on any line. I will vote with my feet in light of the airliner shoot down and other recent events. I would not want to fly in and out of Russia.

We did an ocean cruise that included an overnight in St Petersburg five years ago. I'm glad we went when we did. At least the Baltic cruises embark in a safer country.

Weak bookings probably prompted the cancelation.
