Magicbar Posted October 23, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 23, 2014 Quick background: 1st time solo cruiser I am trying to do the dolphin swim/snorkel at Anthony's Key when in Roatan. Told it was sold out. Plan B was to do the Maya Key excursion. Snorkel, Lunch etc. My question is would I be better off just hopping a taxi to the West Bay and snorkel there (have personal snorkel gear) , grab lunch etc. or do the Maya Key trip? Is there much if any difference in the snorkeling/marine life viewing quality between these two?My main objective is to find the best snorkel experience on Roatan. 1st time there and I appreciate any advice from those with experience there. OCruisers Posted October 23, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 23, 2014 Have you checked out what is being offered through the ship?
Magicbar Posted October 23, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted October 23, 2014 The Maya Key is through the ship. Was just wondering if I'm not better off doing my own excursion by going to West Bay. I have my own gear and there are many beachfront restaurants there. My main question was is the snorkeling as good or better than on the Maya Key excursion. Guest 2000 Posted October 23, 2014 #5 Share Posted October 23, 2014 The worry here is finding someone who has snorkeled both spots in good weather with clear water. There are so many variables to having a good experience. I have not snorkeled Maya Key but I have snorkeled many places about the island. I find the best spots are within the Roatan Marine Park, this stretches from West Bay through Sandy Bay.
