Live from Quantum Naming Ceremony November 14, 2014

Recommended Posts

I am on the 3 night on Tuesday, a couple quick questions.

When were you able to get into yourcabin? Trying to figure out how much to carry on with us.

Cabins were ready as soon as we boarded....some in our group arrived as early as 10:00 and were in their cabins texting us a picture at 10:15...:D...more on me and my sisters boarding in answer below...

How was the newcheck in process? We did not do pictures but have the rest done for our set sail.

It was really quick…see more below…you will probably have one more step than us if you don’t upload your picture at home

How was the traffic getting into the port?

Easy breezy for this one but we were early and the ship did not sail full…they need to get that road finished as it won’t be as easy for full sailings

Did you notuce what the blackjack tables were? Any $5 tables?

Sorry walked thru Casino several times on the way to another venue but didn't pay attention to the tables

Any issues with reservations for dinner or shows?

None at all…ate in Grande one night and Chic the next night…added people to our reservation both nights without any issues

I know there are more but those are the main ones I can think of right now.

Ok feel free to post more as you come up with them…have a great cruise!!!

Thanks!!

Some info about the check in process

Both me and Sis had uploaded our pictures and printed our boarding passes prior at home but she left hers at home by mistake so she had to go thru security where they scan for naughty items and into the "check in" lines where they printed one for her...I was stopped before security where they scan for naughty items by the iPad toting check in people who checked my passport and hard copy boarding pass and checked me off in the system, added a green stamp to my hard copy boarding pass and told me to continue to security where they scan for naughty items ... so I go thru the Security check point where they scan your bags for naughty items and Sis is waiting for me on the other side... for this 2 day her "check in if you didn't print your boarding pass" process didn't take any longer than mine....

Now that both of us are thru the Check in process I'm wondering ok where's my SeaPass Card...how am I gonna get thru the last security check point without my SeaPass card...

So now it's embarkation picture taking time but before that another person checks my Hard Copy Boarding Pass…I look at her longingly and ask what about my SeaPass Card…She just says you’ll get it when you get to your cabin…SAY WHAT!!!

So we continue on and take our Embarkation pictures and then it’s on to the security check point to board the ship...but I'm feeling anxious cause they didn't give me a SeaPass card...what are they going to ask me for...how will they know I am now allowed to board...my heart is beating faster...I don't want to be denied boarding and have to start all over back at the check in process...I want to board NOW!!! Please someone give me my SeaPass card so the person at security check point to board the ship have something to scan me in…I look at Sis and ask her if they gave her a SeaPass card where she checked in..No she says I don't have one either...

by now we are at the security check point to board the ship...I still don't have a SeaPass Card and Sis doesn't either....I look sadly at the security person and ready myself to try and explain that they didn't give us a SeaPass card but before I can even speak he says may I have your boarding pass please...I hand the hard copy of my boarding pass to him and VOILA!!! he scans my hard copy boarding pass and my picture (that I uploaded at home) appears on his screen…my security agent says nice picture and gives me the A-ok sign…I am so relieved!!! I am allowed to board and so is Sis…but I’m still wondering “Where in the heck is my SeaPass Card?”…stay along for the ride as we answer this and many other questions that you come up with along the way….

Note: for the 2 nigher we could have used curb side check in for embarkation but we didn't...for debarkation though everyone had to carry all luggage off...

Thanks for riding with a Sistah!!!

how were the lines for I fly and north star? Thanks for the review

alexkrn46 you are so welcome and thanks for taking time to post something...

it was hit and miss as too when the line was long and when it was short...some people said they waited an hour and a half for North Star..When my Sis tried to go they said they had just taken the last set of people and she would have to return in an hour...with iFly it was always a long wait when we went but others said they only waited a half hour or so...on regular cruises (that aren't 2 nighters) I believe you will be able to make a reservation plus I'm sure they will list more time slots in the Compass than we had so that will all help...

This is just a guess, but is your card in an envelope on your cabin door?

Yeah thought so!

papcx thanks for taking the time to post something....

One was on the cabin door but not in an envelope....Sis teased me profusely as the one on the door was hers and mine still was no where to be found.....:( :o

I know you love to tease everyone.....but the truth is....one is in the slot by the door, and all of the others are sitting on the bed. Cards, wrist bands, day one brochure.........

And.........if you are Pinnacle.........and you received a blue pass, as everyone did, just go down to the Guest Services area, and you will be given a Gold Card.

I guess that because of the BS of this board...that just gets better every day, is why I choose mostly to just lurk.

I'd love to tell the story of what so much of this ship is like..........but I'll leave it to the professional.

Hi Rick: thanks for answering but then you were on board so of course you knew the answer.... ;)

and if you would like to "tell the story of what so much of this ship is like" you should do so...as you well know one of the great things about CC is that anyone can start a thread...this one just happens to be the one I started....it's all about sharing info and guess what some people appreciate it...

thanks for posting and lurking...enjoy the rest of your day on purpose...

Have a fabulous time! Are you planning on seeing different cabin types? I have not seen any pics yet of a Family JS and if you have a chance to see one would love to see pics

They actually scheduled a cabin crawl on Day 2 and listed the cabins in the Cruise Compass. I am so glad they did this as I wanted to check out all of the new cabin types and see the difference in the suites etc. The Family Connected, the single without paying the single supplement and Virtual Balconies were the ones I was most interested in. You could go to the ones you wanted and at your leisure any time from Noon to 4pm and there was an RCCl Host/Hostess there to greet you and answer all of your questions.

this first set of pics is especially for fish6 - Cabin # 13228, 13230 and 13232 (Family Connected Junior Suite with Balcony) (D2, S1, JS) (Deck 13)

D2 = Superior Ocean View with Balcony

S1 = Studio Interior with Virtual Balcony

JS = Junior Suite with Balcony

This picture shows the Common Hallway.... to the left is the door for the S1, the D2 is the door to the right (where the lady in the red sweater is standing) and straight ahead is the door to the common living area (if you choose to have all of the interior doors open) with access to the JS

I had originally booked 7250 and then moved to 6648 prior to getting the opportunity to book an outside GTY at a great rate and was finally upgraded a couple of times to different standard balconies. I landed at the end in a D2.

Having seen 7250 on our cabin crawl, I was very happy to have moved up to double C&A points and the larger cabin. That said, it is great they are offering this new category.

I would only avoid the --52 cabins, as the main redeeming quality of the SB was the large balcony and standard sized bathroom and shower.

You basically loose the sofa area and have half as much storage as a standard balcony. you loose most of the drawer space of a standard cabin and the full size desk is just a half-oval with the phone attached to the wall and while maintaining the same number of power outlets and ports, you only have a stool that fits under the hanging half table and no chair. 7250 had the same balcony furnishings as standard cabins with 2 full size chairs and the small table.

Quantum cabins are very well designed and the SB category is very manageable, but I would never pay a premium for this cabin.

Your description sounds fine to me. If I have the balcony, I can live with the smaller cabin. Just got back from two weeks on the EX in an inside. I travel light, so the closet was more than half empty and I only used two of the many drawers and none of the side shelves or cabinet storage. The extra bed and the couch were dumping grounds for beach stuff.

I booked the first day bookings were open for C&A and got the full D+ balcony discount. Prices never came down - any balcony has been priced more than double the cost of an SB on my sailing.

I'm just really curious to see if the --48 cabins really have a larger balcony. I think the location is perfect for a winter sailing - close to the aft elevators and tucked in behind the hump. It looks like part of the balcony would be sheltered from the wind, but the outer edge would have more expansive views.

The description from MADflyer is very accurate however like 138east for me the space would be fine...will have to check out the pricing as I understand you will not have to pay single supplement for it....

here are some pics of Cabin #7648 Super Studio OV with Balcony

I like this because sometimes I sail single and the supplement is a bear! hoping this rate will be more manageable...it was just the right size for one and with the large balcony and the regular size bathroom all you're really missing is the couch area...

Thank goodness for this as I have no desire to ride her and if you catch me riding NorthStar it will be because someone dragged me kicking and screaming and pulled me on...I can't do heights and heights over water are the worse...I got dizzy just watching this video...it is an excellent view though...check it out...

I know I am all over the place but I just had to post this from little britain....it has to be the best picture from NorthStar that I have seen,....love the picture IFly and the Flowrider and the one of BI-O and NI-C the Bionic Bar Bartenders Brothers...and his review of the best of everything good about Quantum is great...thanks little britain

I'll get back to the cabins later but check this out...

There is a very large pink bear. Why? Because they can.

There is sky diving. Why? Because they can.

There is a pod that rises 300 ft above the ship and then swings out 90o over the side. Why? Because they can.

There are dodgem cars, a circus school, roller skating. Why? Because they can.

Because of the weather North Star was not ‘flying’ as much as she could. I waited in line for about 40 mins and I was one pod-load (she takes around 15 each trip) from boarding and it was cancelled due to the weather. The next time I waited about 50 mins and got on. Where on earth can you soar above the Atlantic and get such a unique view of the ship.

2014-11-06%2010.34.22-M.jpg

I think it must be beautiful to do this in the Caribbean whilst sailing between the islands. I do suggest that they take bookings for this though to negate the long wait times.

I also did the iFly. To be honest I didn’t like it very much but I can say I have done it. They take bookings and it was a very smooth slick operation. Again around 12 to a group and then at the end your instructor shows you how it should be done.

I just loved the Bionic Bar. Yes it wasn't working as smoothly as it should - but that meant drinks were free whenever I went (hic). They were so cute, especially when they 'shook' the drinks!

So let's continue with our Cabin Crawl...by now sis is ready to end her "crawling" and go back to our cabin...she really stayed out with me longer today than usual so I am grateful...Sis is one of those people who enjoys the balcony experience and prefers to eat in the Windjammer taking her food back to the cabin to eat...I like to stay out and about as long as possible and only stay in the cabin as necessary...

As I said before I am so glad they opened these cabins up so we could check them out and now you get to enjoy the pics as well...

Here are some great shots of the Superior Studio Oceanview Balcony cabin.

Thanks to CC Cruiser Radio for these pics.

One thing to note is that Radio says the balcony was the same size however the Superior Studio Oceanview Balcony that I saw in cabin #7648 was much larger than the regular Balcony cabins.

I liked my Cabin (Superior Studio Oceanview Balcony), but I didn't like that I was too tall (6'3")to fully fit on the bed. . .My feet hung off a bit. . .

I would not recommend this cabin for 2 passengers. It will however sleep one comfortably. . . . with no Single supplement.

At only 119 sq ft, this can be considered suitable for a single

During our cabin crawl we saw an Interior Virtual Balcony Cabin that was part of the Family Connected Suite but here is a thread from someone who stayed in a regular one. I don't believe the FC interior had a chair (except the desk chair) and I know it didn't have a sofa bed.

There has been some talk on the boards about Balcony Cabin Category E1...evidently they have a chair in the cabin instead of the normal sofa/loveseat...

the poster below says it is wider than the regular E cat...I kinda like the set up with the wider cabin...you won't be bumping into each other as much but when you both want to watch TV and not have to sit on the bed what do you do?....check out his pics:

By the way I thought our Balcony cabin was shorter than most other cabins in the line...

Hi, I'm the poster from the E1. Just to say, while there is only the single seat there is still the seat and desk. My mate has a D cabin and we absolutely agree that both categories have their own merits. He has the sofa, I have a much wider cabin but not as long, which I prefer.

The cabin excluding bathroom is approximately 9 foot by 9 foot.

Here's the photos I posted in no particular order. Don't panic, unless you NEED a sofa the E1 is a great room!
