vatali27 Posted January 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2015 We, a family of 4, are seriously considering this cruise. until today that is, when we looked at temps in the northern stops. Malaga at 28F! Morocco (tangier) at 35F. water temps in the canaries in the 60's. ouch. is this year an anomaly or is this just a cold weather cruise in the sub tropics? We would love to go, but we would want some beach time, and I'm not seeing how that's possible. Anyone who has gone in the winter, did you get to beach at all? Da-Painter Posted January 2, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2015 We did the 10 day cruise Dec 6-16th, it was cool in Malaga, about 50's, Casablanca was about 60's, but mostly in the 60's. It is not beach weather in December, consider the Caribbean for December.
Demonyte Posted January 2, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 2, 2015 Temps can vary a lot because it's also winter storm season in Atlantic, our first ever cruise was a Canary Islands itinerary in the beginning of January and once through Gibraltar strait, the waves were totally something else - luckily we had a Caribbean cruise booked also at that point, because if that had been our only cruising experience, it'd probably have been first and last one. :)
Froggitt Posted January 2, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 2, 2015 Last December Malaga was t-shirt weather. Some people did go to the beach!!!
Rare insidecabin Posted January 2, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 2, 2015 Med and canaries are very variable Nov-Feb. The good thing is the prices are so much better and fewer tourists. Jade and Spirit UK prices go down to £299 for 9-11 days Don't wait till Dec when the only option is the Epic, look now(Jan,Feb) and US booking with the Dinner and beverage package thrown in. Single Cruiser Posted January 2, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 2, 2015 I've been to Canaries in December on a RCI cruise. It was snowing in Southampton, about 15C in Lisbon and then in the 20s in the Canary Islands! So definitely beach weather for some.
cmdchiefthom Posted January 2, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 2, 2015 Personally, having lived in that region for three years, I would not anticipate beaching it in the Canaries this time of year. You might get lucky, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.;)
HokiePoq Posted January 2, 2015 #8 Share Posted January 2, 2015 We went off the Jade a few years ago in December. We found the weather and seas pleasant and comfortable. Not beach weather by our standards, though. We also went to Funchal, Madeira, and it was cooler there. Many people winter in the Canaries so I guess it's all relative, but for beach weather, I, too, would recommend the Caribbean. For sight seeing, this is a great itinerary.
