dongordon Posted August 30, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 30, 2005 Hi Everyone, I'm on the Dawn and everything is great. Yesterday was a beautiful sea day and today looks the same for Port Canaveral. We had our CC Meeting yesterday and we filled up the Star Bar. A few of the officers greeted us (hotel director, Ricky - the CD, berage director and concierge - Alex who has been just great and the most visible meber of the cruise staff. He showd up at Le bistro to say hello and in the liunge as well. He has been great. they lost our shore excursions and he rebooked them for us. We heard there may have been damage to the private island due to the hurricane and might not stop there. We will know today or tomorrow. Time to head ashore. Open for questions...... I will try and report back on later or tomorrow. Don

bragstarr Posted August 31, 2005 #4 Share Posted August 31, 2005 Gee, Don, are you EVER going to make it to the private island?:D Can't believe you're back on the ship and have the time to post on CC! You and Barbara have a drink for me and Bruce. I think I may be heading for Spirit in December 2006, if my travel agent ever gets around to calling me back. Keep your fingers crossed. Hve2cruise Posted August 31, 2005 #5 Share Posted August 31, 2005 Alex is the best! Please say "hi" from Helane & Ira in cabin 11030 on last week's sailing. We had to miss GSC, but had more time in Nassau. A couple of rough sea days, but had a great time! Enjoy your cruise!

Hve2cruise Posted August 31, 2005 #8 Share Posted August 31, 2005 Hi Sue..........As you know, the AB Penthouse has many perks. The concierge, Alexander, will make all your dinner reservations and shore excursions. If you are going with other people in other cabins, no matter what cat., he will include them. Having the wireless phone supplied in the cabin is great. You can call anywhere on the ship and back to your cabin. It was great keeping in touch with the kids. This cabin is like an apartment, 2 bedrooms, two bathrooms, 4 tvs. etc. The master bathroom is huge. For room service, just call your Butler. Ours was Denny, what a nice guy! We originally had another butler, but after 2 days, it was evident that she did not do her job. After we asked Alex about this, she was immediately replaced. You will absolutely love the experience of an AB Suite. Any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Happy Sailing!!!!! Helane

dongordon Posted September 1, 2005 Author #11 Share Posted September 1, 2005 Hi Julie, Yes, back on the Dawn, and you were right, I haven't had time to post. Tell Bruce "Hi" and let me know about the Spirit...we were thinking of going on that in April. Sorry everybody about not posting until now! Today we were at GSC and it was beautiful and in good shape. We were on the first tender and arrived early and left before lunch was served. We went back to the ship, had the pool virtually to ourselves and ate a great lunch in the Blue Lagoon! I will say "Hi" to Alex for everyone. Need advice: What is considereed a good tip for the Butler and Concierge (Alex). Haven't been to any shows yet. I was disappointed they do not have "Edge" anymore...he was great. I miss Colin....no one can come close to him as a CD...he made the cruise extra special. The Martini Clinic was fabulous...learned a lot of interesting facts and at the same time got "loaded" (LOL!) I think the bartender's name is Benny. He makes the best martinis. We have been going to the Star Bar every night before dinner and the piano player/singer in both the Gatsby and Star Bar are great. Tonight we eat in Cagney's. Don't hesitate to ask questions. Time to get back to having fun on the Dawn!! Don
dongordon Posted September 2, 2005 Author #12 Share Posted September 2, 2005 Another beautiful day on the Dawn....the weather is sunny and hot. We went to the Atlantis early this morning for breakfast (8:00 AM) and after walked around the beautiful grounds and saw the aquarium. If you have children, this is a great place to have them see the fish (sharks, stingrays. etc.) This is the free aquarium, down the stairs from the casino. They have a giant stingray that must be at least 5-6 feet in length! My wife and daughters are shopping in Nassau right now...too hot for me! We leave for NYC at 12 Noon today. Should be windy on by AC balcony...I saw that the ship will be traveling at 23 knots heading back to NY. I love my cabin, it has the same view as you see from the bridge cam. I would book it again in a "NY minute." Tonight is my favorite show..."Bollywood." My family is not big on shows. I might be enjoying it by my lonesome! Only two days and this great cruise is over.....how disappointing. I'll just have to start planning the next one! Don
swoosh2005 Posted September 2, 2005 #13 Share Posted September 2, 2005 depending on how much you require from the butler and concierge is how you base your tip. When we sailed 11 days with Lani on the Dawn we gave her $200.-there were 4 in our AB. We hardly used the concierge at all-so we tipped $20. While on our last cruise (AD) it was reversed-Ruth, our concierge was of great service to us and we tipped $100. We were lucky enought to have Lani again and while we didn't require much "butlering" we did give her $100. I cannot say enough about the wonderful service we have always had, on not only the Dawn, but on all NCL ships.
Baitman19 Posted September 2, 2005 #14 Share Posted September 2, 2005 Don Remember to sit in the 12 row from the stage. The guy almost lands in you lap in the beginning of the show. Glad to hear you're having a great cruise. That's what cruising is ALL about:) Keep the boat clean, we'll be getting on Sunday. Have a smooth ride home. greenie Posted September 2, 2005 #15 Share Posted September 2, 2005 Don, thanks for taking the time to post. You know how we like to cruise along with the "real" cruisers! :) Sounds so nice--I remember the feeling when in Nassau "oh, so sad, we'll head back soon ..." :( You are right--start planning your next one! Happy cruising, smooth seas, safe return.
dongordon Posted September 2, 2005 Author #16 Share Posted September 2, 2005 Swoosh: Thanks for the suggestion. We have Lanie also. We use her for coffee and danish in the morning (for three) and snacks for our before "dinner cocktails (for five)." I was going to give her $100. Alex, our concierge has been great with all our dinner reservations, tender tickets and is setting up a private meeting with the cruise consultant to book our next cruise. I was going to give him $100 also. No question about it...the service is great including the entire crew. Monty: I'll try to get that row! Our CC group have kept the Dawn in perfect condition for you..... have a great cruise! I hope you have nice weather as we have had on our cruise. Greenie: It was great sharing my experience with all of you "real cruisers" Our cruise is such a great experience thanks to all of our CC friends. I forgot to add in my previous post about hanging out by the Bimini Bar. As stated on these boards, it is one of the best kept secrets on the Dawn. The burgers are great and the staff wonderful. the best place to "sun and fun" on the Dawn! Don
