what is YOUR breaking point

I can deal with almost anything - except smoke. I was pretty much able to stay away from the casino and other smoking areas on the Breeze last month. But if I couldn't avoid it, I would have to throw in the towel.

Breaking points for me would be:

 

Price - If prices rose to the same level as NCL and RCCL then I may consider the switch.

 

Food - I am very on the fence about this American Table that I will now have on my next cruise. I am not adventurous but I also don't want to be pigeonholed into only chicken, salmon and that horrible flat iron steak. If the food is not to my liking then after our Vista cruise I will look to other lines.

I laughed out loud when I read this, the first thread in quite a while for me. I so want to love Carnival Cruise Lines. I have tried three times now. The last cruise was on Sensation as a quick long weekend getaway. The reason I got on CC just now is because I was thinking "what the heck is Carnival going to do about the smoking" and I wondered if there was a way to contact Carnival. Then the first thread I read is about smoking and how it would be the end of Carnival for the OP if they cut back on smoking aboard ships. I laugh because I was thinking just the opposite...if ONLY they could cut back on the smoking, I might like them more.

 

To me the deal breaker is that I do not like the smell of smoke. At all. Celebrity is my line. That said, if Carnival chooses to be line for smokers, I am OK with that too. There are many ships for all different kinds of people.

 

Then you didn't actually read what I wrote. They have severely cut back smoking on Carnival, and I am okay with that, although I wished that one side of the ship still allowed smoking on balconies. The restrictions are not a deal breaker for me. But if the line went non smoking completely it would be. Are any cruise lines totally non smoking? When I go on land vacations I expect not to smoke in the hotels or attractions, but I can go to my car, or outside, or somewhere else. I can't pop off the ship for a cigarette in the middle of the cruise. I do wonder though what you do about ports? No matter the cruise line when you go into ports the people that live there smoke. Especially Europeans.

I don't think I have a breaking point. Any issue I have had has immediately been taken care of by Carnival. I go on every cruise knowing I am going to have a good time...

If service gets any slower In the MDR we may quit sailing Carnival. It's been pretty slow our last 2 cruise. Going again in a week. We will see. May have to look elsewhere.

First would be if they allowed smoking everywhere. The smell gives me migraines and my son has asthma, so that would be the first thing. Second would be food. We go on vacation to experience and eat food that we don't get daily at home (prime rib, lobster). If the food aspect went away, we would most likely just do all inclusive.

On both Dream and Sunshine last year, I was informed temp between 72 and 78 degrees was standard for cabin temp.

If we ever go on Carnival again and the cabin is 72, our balcony door will be open the entire trip. House is set on 64 degrees 24/7/365. I will be forced to sleep on top of the Guest Relations Desk sans jammies.

I read another thread and it got me thinking. We all have things that we love, miss, hate, and enjoy. What is minor complaints versus your actual breaking point? For me food and service are somewhat important, I hate that they no longer allow smoking on balconies, at least on one side of the ship, and I wish the entertainment was good. But my breaking point is bedding. If the mattresses were no longer super comfortable and Carnival cutback on that then I would be done with Carnival. That would be my breaking point, what is yours? If they did away with smoking on board all together we would also be done. We do other vacations that we also enjoy.

 

My breaking point is being around people that complain about everything.

I'm with you. After about 20 cruises, on multiple lines, I can't even come up with something that would make me quit (any given line) entirely.

Financial problems. Being bored with the itineraries I can afford and priced out of the itineraries I want. I think that's about the only thing.

No, I read your post - I just chuckled because I think it's ironic that I was coming on looking for a way to find out how to limit smoking for my comfort and I selfishly didn't think about the other side of it where some people may really not like the limits.

 

There are no non-smoking cruises. Carnival Paradise was a project they thought of to be non-smoking completely and even the people building the ship were not allowed to smoke while constructing it. It was way ahead of its time and it failed. Even today, I doubt a mega ship could sustain profitability being completely non-smoking.

 

Celebrity has some fairly strong limits on smoking. I know they do not allow to smoking in rooms, on balconies, in restaurants, bars or the casino. I was shocked by the strong smoke smells on Carnival even when a few floors away from the casino.

 

I was going to put together a group cruise on Carnival because the prices are so great but decided it might not be for me/my group. In my case, I would definitely pay a higher price for less smoking around me. Perhaps you would pay a higher price to allow more open smoking; IDK.

 

Yes people smoke in ports. It's not that I cannot be around it, I just don't like it.

bahahaha this made me laugh. my hubby always has our room below zero, and the room steward came in one day to fix our balcony door and i had on a hat and gloves and she thought it was funny

Absolutely. I have read some nightmare reviews about rooms being too hot. As matter of fact, that was a constant on some of the cove balcony reviews on the Dream which I will be on and staying in. I tried my best to avoid the rooms that were too hot but not every room has been reviewed and not everyone agrees. We sleep with the air quite cold, we like it about 69 at night. I know that is not always going to be possible but some people mentioned rooms not getting below 75 or so. That is HOT to me. If it is cooler outside at night then we have a major problem. This would be a huge deal breaker for me, so hopefully this will not be an issue for us in April.

 

We've never had that problem...DH turns the AC all the way down and I usually end up sleeping in a bathrobe in addition to the blankets, etc they provide because otherwise I would freeze to death.

Around day 5 when everything on the buffet looks familiar. I usually have a breakdown then.

 

My sister is allergic to strawberries. On our last cruise on the Breeze, every dessert (on the buffet) had strawberries as a garnish. Many times the garnish made no sense.

Yeah bed bugs would do me in for sure. I am past dealing with worries in school about lice. Bed bugs would freak me out big time.

I'm easy. IMO, a bad day cruising is better than a good day at work. My only weakness is that my DW has to be satisfied. If she ain't happy, I can't get happy no matter how hard I try.

That's me! I do appreciate keeping kids away from my relaxation! The Serenity area is one of the big reasons I have picked the magic! Im sorry this doesn't fit your needs but so many things are forcibly family friendly I am very excited for adults only!

 

Hope you won't be disappointed as the serenity area on Magic backs right up to the kiddie area. Great for families with young kids and parents who want to "get away" but still stay within arms reach (we went through that phase so no judging here). Not so great for parents who left their kids home looking for a break from the same. Cove Balconies more than make up for it!

Minor complaints vs. actual breaking point? Safety is a major breaking point. We have children coming along with us this Spring, if we do not feel safe or know that safety is a priority than we are done.
