The Peace boat does World Cruises, but unfortunately is usually the last stop for an old ship before the breakers. EM

Tropicale was my very first cruise 30 years ago. I sailed solo with a group called Singleworld; they matched me up with a roommate and had all sorts of activities planned on board for us.

We had buttons to wear along with a paper card to reboard the ship in ports. Regular keys for our rooms that we had to turn in at the end of the trip. Waited in a line the first formal night to meet the captain and have a picture taken with him.

Excursions were $25-30 each and all non-alcoholic drinks were included in the fare. No such thing as 'specialty' dining.

It was awesome.

Crazy as it sounds, I actually like the new funnel!

However, it is sad that she replaced the trend-setting Oceanic, which was the previous Peace Boat.

With proper care, she has many more years left in her.
