Redtravel Posted September 3, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 3, 2015 I will be on a cruise that stops in Kusadasi for one day ( not the embarkation/debarkation port). I am a USA citizen. It is the only stop in Turkey. Do I need a visa? I know that the requirement changed in April 2014. Prior to that I only needed a visa if I flew into Turkey and stayed or embarked on a cruise in Turkey. Has anyone needed to buy the visa for a stop in Turkey? TexSea Posted September 3, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 3, 2015 Hi there. You will not need a visa for the Kusadasi stop. See https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/info/ ... "According to the Law on Foreigners and International Protection which entered into force on 11th April 2014, those foreigners who arrive at sea ports and intend to visit the seaport city or nearby provinces for touristic purpose are exempt from visa provided that their stay does not exceed seventy two (72) hours." Hope this helps and have a great cruise!
excitedofharpenden Posted September 3, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 3, 2015 No, if you are just spending a day there and returning to the ship you don't need one. If you were embarking or disembarking in Turkey then you'd need one. Phil

Redtravel Posted September 5, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted September 5, 2015 Nice to know that I do not need a visa. I have been in Turkey on land trips. I have visited Ephesus and the archeology museum. I have visited the rug merchants and bought a rug. Does anyone have suggestion on what else I can do in the port of Kusadasi? Is the bazaar open on Sunday? If so, is it worth visiting? I loved the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. It was a shopping heaven.
2552phxcrzr Posted September 5, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 5, 2015 (edited) Redtravel ... You can go to the hilltop town of Sirince for a wander -- not sure what public transportation options are as we've always driven up there in a private car ... this blog post shows a bit of what you might see there. It has become a bit touristy over the years, but there are some nice casual eateries where you can have a Turkish-style breakfast ... which can be quite a feast. Or, take a taxi or a shared taxi van from the port and go into Selcuk. Nearby is the fortress that you can hike to (haven't done this, so not sure what there is up there). Admission to the fortress is included in the archaeological site of the Basilica of St John where he is said to have been buried. Isa Bey Mosque is nearby as well. More info in my blog post from our visit in 2013. Edited September 5, 2015 by h2so4
