I naturally assumed the concern was that your full name appeared. My bad. And yes, meeting some people on a ship, and deciding whether or not to introduce myself is quite a bit safer than posting my private information to hundreds of thousands of nameless faceless people on the internet. I'm not going to debate this though, because I only waste my energy when it's a challenge.

Someone posted dailies from last week's Sky cruise and it was $64 in there. When I called NCL last night for my amenity details tell agent informed me the package was good up to $15 a drink. I said I thought it went up but to $11 and she said drink prices are being raised so so is the limit on the package.

 

Royal Caribbean pulled a highway robbery stunt this year in pricing and got away with it so I don't blame the competition for jumping in.

As I stated yesterday in another thread, NCL now charges the same for UBP that RCCL and Celebrity do for their premium packages and for most people UBP contains less value than RCCL's and Celebrity's classic packages that are $10pppd cheaper.

Agreed - having utilised the drinks package properly of an evening, one's system needs proper coffee and juice the next morning - and the cycle repeats!:D:rolleyes:

 

I am afraid to say that Princess has become a much more attractive cruising option than NCL for a lot of reasons.

I'm now getting the UBP perk included in a suite that I have zero use for because I don't even drink. Yet my speciality coffee and a bottle of water every morning I will be paying for. It's not like a couple coffees and bottles of water are going to kill me but it is just absurd the UBP doesn't cover what probably amounts to a total of under $10/day worth of beverages. It's a principle thing - pay for the highest priced room on the ship and we will give you all the booze you want and even pay the tip on it but if you don't drink tough luck, your water bottle or coffee that costs a fraction of the mixed drink is not covered.

Do you know if their cost of buying alcohol from vendors went up to supply the ships? Why should they give something else to the package because it went up in price? Do you demand more when the cruise fare goes up?

They did give back a little: they raised the price limit to $15. I know this means nothing to you, because you don't drink, but this is a package designed for drinkers. No one (even on Princess or wherever else) has ever suggested that you can get your money's worth with these packages by drinking non-alcoholic beverages.

The principle is: they offered a deal, and you took it. It included one perk that is wasted on you, but I guess the rest of the deal was attractive to you, so you bought it. The principle is not: I booked the most expensive stateroom on the ship so I should get to decide what the perks are.

When they had the UDP maybe they should of included everything on board to eat. Also most people like drinks with their dinner and they should of included that in the UDP since it really is part of the dining experience. Why not just give everything for free even playing in the casino and just hand people money as they walk in.

Yes, guests have always been responsible for the gratuities when purchasing the package, ever since the package was first introduced. There were a few months when the package was given as a promo, and the gratuities were included. The promo changed to where you are given the package, but guests have to pay the gratuities on the price of the package. Some feel they are entitled to have the gratuities included since they once were.

As it stands, when you book with UBP as a promo you are charged for the gratuity up front in the booking.

 

You effectively open a ship-wide tab when you put cash or a credit card onto your shipboard account.
