E cigs question?

Another perspective to add to this discussion....propylene glycol can also an allergen. Both myself and my 3 year old son are allergic to propylene glycol. If you happened to be vaping in a cabin next to ours - it could have consequences for us.

If we know the areas where vaping is going on - we could avoid them. Those breaking the rules, there are others that could be affected.

I get being allergic to PG. but to say your allergy would be affected by second hand vapor (which dissipated after a few seconds) from a cabin away is kind of ridiculous. (Not to say that I would intentionally blow vapor your way)

A quick Google reveals that what few references to this allergy I can find describe it as an itchy skin condition, so since PG is in foods like ice cream and fireball whiskey, sounds like the buffet and pool decks would be far riskier. :) watch those spills.

Actually, there are quite a few symptoms...ranging from facial swelling (my eyes) almost swell shut to rashes and throat swelling. We have both experienced them all. It affects your life quite a bit and we have had to switch almost every product in out home to deal with this allergy (which was finally diagnosed after a year if dealing with these symptoms).

There is a great deal of difference between airborne particles of high PG concentration and food/drink (which we know to avoid).

Please do not make light of something you do not truly understand.

I know we are in the minority - all I was saying if that e cigs should be contained to designated areas so that people could choose to avoid them if they wish to do so.

Totally agree. There is an odor. It doesn't really linger though so I don't think most people notice or are bothered.
This reminds me of a flight I took several years ago, before everyone started vaping and places starting making rules against it. This lady was vaping at the gate, and it did not smell very good. Of course, she wound up sitting a couple of rows in front of me and vaped for the ENTIRE flight. While the stuff didn't smell great at the gate, where there was at least room to get away from it, it smelled sickening in the plane, where I couldn't get away from it.

I agree there can be a smell but I always have to chuckle when people say things like "smelled sickening". I get that people have different tastes etc but the smell is usually something fruity or minty or coffee etc. surely there could be worse smells. I guess one could say the same thing about the smell of certain foods that people could be eating. All this being said, I wouldn't blow vapor in a confined space anyway.

I wasn't being facetious, lol. I was actually starting to feel sick to my stomach by the time the flight was over (I think it was a 5-6 hour flight). It's like being stuck in an enclosed space for an extended period of time with someone that's doused themselves in a sickly-sweet cheap perfume/cologne. The one that really sets me off is Vanilla Fields perfume. I've forbidden my coworker from wearing hers, because it actually does make me nauseated. There's just something about cheap, sweet, perfumey smells that tend to nauseate me, especially when I'm not able to get away from it.

Why do this in the first place? The smoke alarm goes off, causing an unnecessary situation using security resources. What would have happened if the sprinklers went off? Its one thing to smoke in designated areas, but to violate policy by doing this in the room?

At the time of this sailing we did not see any notices about not vaping in our cabin. We did not think we were doing anything wrong until the steward came running into the room telling us to hide our equipment. Of course I would never intentionally create a situation that caused valuable resources, such as security personnel, to be distracted from more important duties.

You are not the only one. I, and a few others, had to leave an area of a casino because this lady was puffing away with this sickening smelling vapor. It was one of the worst things I had smelled in a long time.

I agree. Smoke smell and vapor smell is sickening. But what can you do when it's allowed in the casino. Wish it wasn't allowed at all

That is why we all walked away. If there is smoking allowed, I would never complain or ask someone not to smoke or vape, but if there is no smoking or vaping allowed, then yes I would ask them.

BTW, the casinos in Colorado are all non-smoking. I also heard Harrah's New Orleans has gone non-smoking, I'll find out when I'm there in December.

I was on the Epic in June and now vape instead of smoking. Go to the cigar lounge or outside on Deck 7 (I think), you'll have no problems! Must be healthier e-cigs in the UK!!

That's fantastic. I would love to go into a casino and leave not smelling like an ashtray and killing my lungs with second hand smoke.

Harrah's in New Orleans is smoke free....big signs on the way in saying they are the "best smoke free casino in the south" it cites a new Orleans ordinance and includes e-cigs....

"like" button being pressed....IF there was one! I have nine children, two of whom are physicians and have had MANY allergy test run on some of the "kids" throughout the years?.....

I have never seen a result for PG - be it positive OR negative.......is this even a test that is done?

Thanks. When I was there last year, they said it would probably happen.

I have another random question. Goes more for smoking in general. On their smoking policy, it states that in the casino smoking is only for the players. I don't plan on gambling a whole lot but I do vape and don't want to have to go outside all the time to do it. I'm happy abiding by the rules of not doing it in the cabin but the wording of the policy suggest that if I am not actually gambling, I can't vape in the casino?

I'm assuming this is one of those policies that is there but isn't super strictly enforced. So basically, can I vape in the casino without actually gambling or will I get told to stop?

Technically you could sit at the penny slot machines lol

There's vaping with "equipment" that let's the vaper create huge clouds. Then, there's disposable e-cigs that my husband can't smell riding beside me in the car.

I'm all for getting off the cigarets, but those big clouds can be as bad as cheap cologne ... Toilet water.

It's now been stated that second vapors are harmful to non smokers.

Having "been stated" and actually being true are not the same thing. There is absolutely no evidence that second-hand vapors or even first-hand vapors are harmful.

Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights

Jul 17, 2015 - Health concerns exist about the safety of the e-cigarette to nonsmokers. A study published in February 2010 found that nicotine causes the formation of carcinogens when it reacts with nitrous acid - a common component of indoor air. Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine, which is exhaled by the user in a vapor cloud.

The same paragraph on that page states that e-cig vapor contains formaldehyde and acetaldehyde. Those substances aren't even in the e-cig components or the e-liquid, so how can that be?

1) Zombie thread.

2) Many ecigs use liquid that contains liquid nicotine which is a serious carcinogen and requires the handler to wear a full hazmat suit.

3) To say ecigs are safe at all let alone 'safer' than anything else is absurd.

4) Smoking is smoking no matter if it is a standard tobacco cigarette or an e-cigarette.

5) No one cares if you choose to commit suicide on the time delay plan, they only care when if your choice to do that drags them along in the process.

One river cruise company has stated that the ship is a "non-smoking" ship and that includes e-cigs. If a passenger is caught "vaping" they will be charged for completely re-doing the cabin and could possible be put off the ship. I would assume that big ship policies are the same when they state the cabin is a non-smoking cabin. Of course there will always be some people who try to get around any policy, just so they can.
