I am looking forward to being on the Magic in 7 months. Have been on 7 wonderful cruises. Six with Carnival and one on Royal Caribbean. I go with a positive attitude, on vacation and letting no one or nothing spoil that for me. How can one even be on a bad cruise anyways????

I have been on her six or seven times and will be on her again, one last time before she leaves Galveston. I Love Her !!! The crew is wonderful- the ship is Beautiful. I have yet to have a bad cruise on the Magic. I tend to take reviews with a grain of salt, because some people(like me) go on a cruise intending to have a good time and others are looking for flaws and a reason to complain. Go on her and form your own opinion.

Where is the like button? I also read every single review with a grain of salt. Some people are just complainers. I say find your own fun. The Magic is a beautiful ship. I have only been on her once but she left a sweet memory.

By the way....the people who sailed with me were definitely complainers. On my upcoming cruise, they're staying home. I would never sail with them again.

Find your own fun.

I loved it twice this year.

We are Diamond RCCL & swore we'd never do carnival again after the Conquest a couple of years ago...unless it was free. It was, so we did. We both gamble a lot and both earned a offer from the casino to travel again in 3 months. SO, I took my daughter & 7 year old granddaughter on her first cruise. We ALL loved it!

What I like more than RCCL is the PRICE. We spend the same amount in the casino, and get nothing back...an almost free cruise can't be beat. So that is starting in a happy place.:D We usually pay a difference to upgrade from an interior room. I also like the comedy shows & how many are offered during the week. And we start with a free drink card in the casino.

The disappointments  are food is not as good in MDR (let them eat steak/cake!) & buffet compares really badly. Beds are harder, a lot. (Air mattress) Navigation is a little bit of a challenge in ship design. (Go on same ship class, you know it.) Suite benefits. (Non existent, no help for that.) Past pax benefits. (Mimimal forever...but casino benefits are better.)

If money were no object (PCH winner for life!)...we'd travel RCI/Celebrity product. But, when you can go THREE times a year for the same base price or less then your normal annual travel budget...well. Sign me up, Bat man!

So... long story short. Magic was great (not Allure/Oasis) and third trip is on the sister Breeze in a few days...which also is getting stinky reviews.

If you can get it, FTTF in Galveston is WORTH IT.

I believe that you can't judge an entire cruise line by one of the ships. It's funny that two of the things you didn't like about the Magic was the hard beds and the food. We sailed on RCCL Radiance of the Seas this summer. Two of the things I thought was better on the Carnival ships I have sailed was the beds and the food in the main dining room. Our bed on the Radiance was rock hard. The food was good, but nothing stood out as being fantastic. I guess each ship within a cruise line must have different beds and other things. I have enjoyed sailing on all the ships. Some things are just better than others.

It seems like that's a pretty popular itinerary for the Magic next year. It's the same one we booked :D

I haven't seen many negative reviews. Wouldn't have mattered to me anyway if I did. It's one person's opinion. Go and make your own memories.

As soon as I heard the Magic would be in Port Canaveral, I knew she would be our next ship. Can't wait!!

Cruised on the Magic 9/13 to the Bahamas. It was our 3rd cruise and our favorite. We loved the food (so many options;only one entree we didn't like the entire 7 days), the cruise director/entertainment, and the crew. The room was a spa interior. The bed and temp of the room were good. I honestly don't have any complaints(ok, brunch service was kinda lacking).

It sure does seem like a popular itinerary. I'm hoping the the ports of call will be worth it. From the schedule for the cruise I booked it's crazy how the ships stays in port from 11-7 or whatever.

Something just feels odd/off about this cruise I selected but maybe because it's a ship that hasn't been to Florida yet.

I sure hope it gets some good upgrade when it goes into dry dock.

I'm sorry if I stared any controversies over this ship in this thread :(

I was just making sure before I booked this really expensive 7 day cruise on the magic that j would actually enjoy it. I have learned from my last 3 cruises and after this cruise next year I'm going to just book them, watch you tubes videos and get all excited with no worries! Haha :)

Has anyone heard that the carnival magic has magic shows? I mean if they do I good the tricks are good :)

The Magic had two magic shows the week we were on; though one may have been because the temporary cruise director did magic. The other was a standard production show.

We went to the production show and it was pretty cheesy. If you want to see "good tricks" sit directly in front of the show, on the bottom level. I'd say some of the illusions would be pretty cool from that angle. If you want to laugh your butt off, sit on the side balcony. Although even there you can't see how everything was done- but those are definitely the magic-ruiner seats. And some of it was downright hysterical to see the "trick".

The costuming for the show was amazing though.

I think some magic is also done during the burlesque show at midnight, but after staying up for that on Triumph, I went to sleep early on this cruise.

Magic also had The Quest, which I haven't seen on Carnival previously.

Of course, if they get Playlist Productions in the future, this all may change.

We had a deluxe ocean view on deck 1 on the Magic in April, it's great! Pretty quiet, plus you're just on the lowest guest deck, the crew are on the floor below that.

We are also thinking of booking OV on deck 1, I have a question, is the bed under the picture window or can you actually sit in the window ledge like on the Destiny.

The OV on the Riveria deck I saw had a sign asking you not to sit in the window ledge- but technically there would be plenty of room to do so, and it was easily accessible. My SIL used it to store shoes.

When I was on the Freedom we sat in the ledge, but there was no sign. I wonder if they've since had some issues with them cracking under heavy weight or something?

I will be sailing the magic on may 7 2016. Very excited sure it will be great. I've sailed carnival a lot and don't have ridiculous expectations of the magic so. This is not to say I think it will be bad but just that it will be carnival

I have booked for May 7th also. I have been stalking Magic forums everywhere. Most have been positive. Negative I take with a grain of salt.

That is cool that they did magic tricks on the ship but they do not have the playlist production shows where they put plays on and stuff or even the game shows or whatever? I really hope if they don't have them right now that they get that in the upgrade when the ship goes in a dry dock. Does the magic have the comedy shows?

I have also been looking at the reviews for the magic and they seem good. Honestly any huge ship like this will be good! You have to put your mind in the thinking stages of having fun that say nothing will ruin the cruise

They don't have playlist productions - which I believe is the 'upgrade', the production company who sets the shows. But they have the typical production shows that Carnival has had forever- singers, dancers and a live band.

One was called Grooveline and was the typical song/dance, and then they had the giant magic show. They also hosted game-shows during the day and at night- a take of of Minute to Win-it, and the typical newlywed game (that was not a "main billing" show, just a daytime thing). The cruise director put on an audience particpation magic show one night. I didn't go to the show lounge every night, so I didn't see every nightime show.

There were many comedy shows- probably 4 per night. Those were not in the main theatre, but in the back lounge. The typical "introduced by George Lopez on video" thing, and then a short stand up act. There were 2 family friendly, and 2 adults only shows a night.

The midnight shows were the Burlesque show and the Quest game.

I have 2 cruises planned on the Magic this year , Oct 18 inside cabin and Nov 8 aft balcony.

I'm sure the ship will be fine. I'll experience the American Table menu for the 1st time.

The OP is hopefully aware that his/her sailing in the very heart of hurricane season and has one port (Amber Cove) that is located in one of the worst beach areas of the DR.

I hope the OP has a wonderful cruise.

What do you mean that Amber Cove is in one of the worst beach areas of the DR?

There's not much first hand info on Amber Cove yet, since it just had its first ship stop there a few days ago. But from what I understand, there is no beach near Amber Cove. It's a rocky area with cliffs. Carnival has a large pool built there probably for that reason. To get to a beach you have to travel to a different part of the island.

The beach area near Puerto Plata, not far from Amber Cove, is on the Atlantic side of the island. That means cool grey water, large waves, and coarse yellow brown sand.

Anyone expecting a Caribbean blue water beach with white sugar sand like they have in Punta Cana or other Caribbean islands will be terribly disappointed.

I spent a week in Puerto Plata and haven't been back in over 10 more vacations to the DR.

Cabrete and Sosua are nice but they are even further from Amber Cove than Puerto Plata. The other way is Ocean World, a smaller SeaWorld type aquatic zoo.

Take this from a fellow NY er.

We sailed the Magic out of Galveston 2 months ago and had a great time. The cruise director "Dr. E" was one of the funniest people I have ever seen. We thought the entertainment was pretty good as well as the food. The ship was clean and in good shape. I would not hesitate to book her again.

  • 3 weeks later...

I am booked for 11/29/2015 on the Magic. This will be my second time on this ship. The last time was several years ago. It was a great ship! What is the "American Menu" being mentioned? Like others, I wish there were a Guy's Burger Joint on board. I did not exactly select this particular cruise.....others in my group made this choice. I do think that most any cruise is much better than no cruise!

I agree all crew ships should have the guys burger but the carnival magic looks to be getting the guys burger in the next several months when it goes in dry dock and gets all the upgrades. The ship is one of the larger ones and also have all the upgrades by the time I am on it in sept 2016 which means the carnival magic will be the best!
