Late booking for a World Cruise

What would be the latest one could book a World Cruise and still be able to get all the appropriate visas, etc. How many months out from the date of sailing?

If you book a cruise that includes Brazil, it is probably too late for a 2016 cruise I think that most visas can;'t be purchased until 90 days prior to sailing

And you have to send in your Passport to a service to get China Visa. Took over a month. I found most WCers very conservative and booked close to a year out.

most cruise lines use visa central which I just used for 5 visas I needed in order to board the Queen Mary 2.

You can usually get expedited service from places like Visa Central. It only took two weeks to get my Indian and Chinese visas through them with regular service.

 

I would guess that about three weeks would be the latest if you needed visas unless you lived close to consulates although last I checked US citizens cannot get the Indian visa directly but must go through a third party company.

It really depends on what countries you are visiting.

 

Some are quick and some could take time.

 

Also getting one room for the entire World Cruise can be a challenge if you book late.

If you are leaving in Jan for a stop in Brazil it will me almost impossible if not completely impossible to get a visa.

If you don't have a visa for a country that requires it, can you still take the cruise and just not get off at ports in that country?

Unfortunately you MUST have visas in order to board, even if you do not get off the ship

If the cruise is NOT stopping in Brazil, India or China, you may book the day before the ship sails as visas will probably be offered on board or not needed as 'in transit'. The HAL WC in 2016 is such a cruise as all needed visas can be obtained on board and any fee charged to your on board account.

 

Some countries require a visa to be in their waters so you would need the visa to board. You really need to check the cruise information, with a central visa service like Visa Central and also with each country.
