? abt Bermuda cruise

So, I am considering a first cruise to Bermuda the last week of Oct 2016, My options are Breakaway out of NY or Dawn out of Boston. I see that Breakaway is a new mega ship, I see that there are a lot of a la carte charges. What are the charges for? Shows? Speciality Dining?

Dawn is smaller but a tad bit more expensive on the cabins. Does Dawn offer any enticing ammenites?

We would have to fly into either city for departure.

What would your preference be? Any input would be appreciated.

I was on the breakaway to Bermuda last September and had a great time. The a la carte charges had not started yet but they would be for specialty dining. Instead of a fixed price they are moving to a la carte.

I've been on both Breakaway and Dawn. Both great ships, we really enjoyed both cruises a lot! As far as which I would suggest.. I'd have to say Breakaway. BUT it all depends what you're looking for in a cruise. To me, the Dawn is much more laid back, and obviously much older than Breakaway (but still in great shape) The Breakaway is new, bigger, and had more of a party atmosphere. So I guess it all depends what exactly you're looking for in a cruise, and than decide. I would also look at several pictures of both ships (pool area, staterooms, common areas, etc..) and see what appeals to you more! Either way you go, you won't be disappointed. Enjoy :D:D

Thanks. I know that I would be happy with any cruise to Bermuda.......

If the Dawn is more expensive, or even the same cost as the Breakaway, I'd choose the Breakaway. Typically the Breakaway is more expensive, as it is a newer, larger ship. The Dawn is nice, but the Breakaway has a more to offer. And anything at an additional charge is optional, so you can pick and choose what extras you want to experience.

Things that are extra charge on both ships:

Specialty restaurants

Alcohol/Specialty coffee

Spa services/Shops/Laundry

Casino/Gambling

Additional things that are extra charge on Breakaway:

Vibe (private sundeck)

Spa Thermal Lounge

Ice Bar (cover charge to go in)

Cirque Dreams dinner theater

Wine Lovers musical lunch

I'm missing a few things I'm sure but the bottom line is that Breakaway has several *extra* things for a charge that aren't available on Dawn.

It also has included things that aren't available on Dawn like the Aquapark, Ropes Course, and Rock of Ages.

For most people it comes down to whether you prefer big, crowded, busy with a million things to do (Breakaway) or smaller, more laid back, less crowded but fewer options (Dawn).

Been on both too - service was far better on Dawn - maybe since its smaller ??

Agree that it depends on your interests and preferences - eg size of your group, age range and activity level...

One thing's for sure - Bermuda is my favorite itinerary (and Boston is a super convenient port for us)

So, now it's up to you - enjoy your cruise!!

I have never been on the Breakaway....

I have been on the Dawn 5 times with two more cruises booked, we are only 15 miles south of Boston, that's how we got hooked, but now we have taken 2 cruises out of New Orleans on the Dawn and love that itinerary. We are booked for October 21 to Bermuda, the ship is being refurbished in May/June, it was be like brand new, LOL!!

We did the Dawn to Bermuda in October. One thing to consider is that Dawn arrives in Bermuda on Sunday afternoon, which can limit your options. No ferry to St. George, for example, so you have to go on Monday or Tuesday morning. Some Hamilton shops are closed on Sundays (though not in the Dockyard, to my knowledge).

Bermuda is amazing. Bluest water I've ever seen. Be sure to visit the Bermuda museum in the Dockyard area.
