GateGuardian Posted January 13, 2016 #51 Share Posted January 13, 2016 Agreed with everything the OP stated. I've only been on the Solstice and like it much better than RCI. I really like never feeling crowded on the ship and the open space + the grass lawn on the top deck really makes it a unique experience.
goneclear Posted January 13, 2016 #52 Share Posted January 13, 2016 Enjoying learning a little about Celebrity X as we have never sailed with them and will like to give it a try. Do any Celebrity Class ships have anything like the Royal Promenade that some of RCL ships have?
Queen of Oakville Posted January 13, 2016 #53 Share Posted January 13, 2016 We've sailed Carnival 3 times, would RC or X be a better choice we don't like a lot of kids but better food and good onboard activities but no rock climbing or ice skating, flow rider but the reflection to The western Caribbean is 999 pp for an inside or the Oasis around 1000-1100 pp for an inside We don't like a lot of kids - CELEBRITY Better food - CELEBRITY Good onboard activities - ROYAL You still get kids on Celebrity, but much fewer in number. My kids prefer Celebrity to Royal. MDR to MDR - X wins. Oceanview to Windjammer - Oceanview wins. If X could get their entertainment act together, they would be the perfect cruiseline. Oh, and if smoking is a factor - X has a much better non-smoking policy including a smoke-free casino ... which hands-down makes it a winner for me. Cruising89143 Posted January 13, 2016 #54 Share Posted January 13, 2016 Celebrity cruises are great if you are over 70 and sedentary. Nightlife is great if you like to go to bed at 7pm and instead of music around the pool all you hear is people snoring. The ships feel closed in and the so called center is as big as a postage stamp. I'll do Celebrity again when I'm to old to remember. This is not the case. X has brought in a younger cruiser. Bars go late into the night. The ships have a Miami DJ in the martini bar and at midnight it's still going strong. The Solstice class feel more open than the Freedom or Oasis class. None of the differences described in this thread would sway me either way. We don't do shows. There is no smoking in any indoor venue when ships sail in Australia (Australian smoking laws). But that comment has me worried. We enjoy the daytime AND night time activities on RCI.:D We will find out on our first X cruise in March.
Indymann99 Posted January 14, 2016 #56 Share Posted January 14, 2016 I will add that IF you are cruising with pre-teen/teen I would opt for Royal over X. We are limited by school and baseball schedules to Cruising for Spring Break - April each year. 1st Trip was 2014 on Independence and kids had good time. 2nd trip was 2015 on Constellation and the pre-teen/teen kids were pretty bored... 3rd trip is booked 2016 for Oasis. Royal had better activities for kids, hands down. If just the wife and I, then we would do Celebrity over Royal - depending on itinerary and ship. my 0.
