Sign'n'sail and room safe on liberty

Does the Sign'n'Sail card automatically come with the name that appears on your travel documents (i.e. passport) or can you request the name that appears on your card when you check-in and they do your photo? Asking because hubby actually is known by/goes by/answers to his middle name and not by his legal first name (I could never quite figure out why parents name kids and then use the middle name??). I'm just thinking that all week long the servers, staff, etc are all going to be calling him a name that he might not even answer to. On the other hand, we don't want there to be any difficulties for him to get back on board ship at the various ports.

Second question - are the room safes on the Liberty the keypad type or the type that requires a card with a magnetic stripe? And if they do need the magnetic stripe would something like a gift card work rather than an actual credit card? (like a Tim Horton's card?)

Any help greatly appreciated :-)

Can't answer your name question, but I would guess it might be able to be changed at guest services after you board.

As far as the safe, they are the old card swipe type. When I saw you were suggesting a Tim's card I knew you would be Canadian, and from NB no less.

You will love this itinerary. We did a b2b on the Valor in 2013, and attempted another on the Liberty this past fall. That one kind of got messed up due to the engine fire. My son is on the Liberty in February as well. Have a wonderful voyage.

Yes, your DH's name will be his name from his passport. The best thing to do is when your Room Steward say's "hello, Mr. "X", your DH should say, "Please call me "Mr. Y". This didn't used to be a problem as all passenger's used to be addressed by their last name's, but now things are more casual.

Any card with a magnetic strip will work on the any safe that uses a card. We usually use my library card. The only "rule" is to not use your S&S card.

Also, just FYI any card (or even a piece of paper) will work to keep the light's on in your cabin on the ship's where they automatically turn off. We don't leave our's on when we're gone, but it's easier (at least for us)to use something besides our S&S when coming into the cabin.

Have a wonderful cruise!

The staff won't use a person's first name when they address them.

I can't agree about this statement. During almost all my cruises, my stewards, waiters, and casino servers have referred to me as "Mr. Edward" when dealing with me.

Yes that's my legal first name, but, I never use it.

Anyhoo, it always amazes me how the staff can memorize so many names!

The crew usually call us by our first name but will say Ms Tricia . They usually remember the first time and i have never had them call us by our last name.

The safe works with any type of old gift card. I wouldn't use the sail and sign card just in case you were to lose it. Its easy to use. Have fun!

Thanks for your info - I think I have a few Tim's cards around with just a few cents left on each - so I'll take those. This is so coincidental as I have a friend going on this cruise as part of our group (and he's from NB) and his parents ended up on that cruise with the fire in the fall..... I'm wondering now if we could be speaking of the same person :)

Thanks also for the wishes for a wonderful cruise.......

Thank you. I noticed when I was on HAL in May that the first time I used my card the server came back and called me Ms *first name* - I figured she got it from reading my card - but always remembered my name afterwards where ever I saw her on ship.....It is truly beyond me how they do that -

We were just on the Liberty and they called me Mr. George, never, used my last name. As far as the safe goes, we didn't know not to use our s&s card, so that's what we used. It took us a few times to realize that if I used my S&S card to lock the safe, we had to use the same one to open it. I guess I could have used any other card with a magnetic strip, but didn't try one. We just thought you were supposed to use the S&S cards.

To the OP. Seems we are talking about the same person. Hope too all have a great time. Also, if you have anyone who decides to cancel, I have my. Passport and would be willing to sail on a moment's notice. Someone needs to keep that kid in line.

I'm sure everything will be fine as long as he doesn't "flip-flop" anything while we're there ... I'll keep him in line tho' - ha ha:)
