Ruby 10 day Cruise taking kids, question?

I am thinking of booking us the 10 day Mexican Rivera April 8 on Ruby. I have 2 step kids 13 & 15 and we have a 6 yr old, will there be any other kids on a 10 day?

I had my TA call princess and get an idea if there are others but of course they won't tell us.

Also, I am not finding videos or pictures of the kids clubs on Ruby, does anyone have any?

Thank You so much. Been years since I have sailed Princess.

We were on Ruby last Nov. for Thanksgiving cruise and my then 13 year old and then 10 year old boys went to the kids club and they absolutely loved it. It was a cruise over the holiday so there were a lot of kids onboard. My then 2 year old refused to go to the kids club offered in his age group so we didn't utlize it.

There are always SOME kids on board; the issue is how many. And my response to that is to ask how many kids can your kids play with at any one time?

One of our best ever cruise experiences was a 14 night Panama crossing on Disney--there were 15 teens on the ship and every one of them was a neat kid who was doing something special in their life. It was not "special" because there were so few kids but rather because of the caliber of the kids. In fact, almost 11 years later some of them still stay in touch on line. We've been on cruises with 100+ teens that were not nearly so memorable.

We cruised this year the week after Thanksgiving. I think we were told that there were 200 kids on board and the week before there had been 800--this was on Princess.

If it is a time when your kids can be off school, there are likely to be other kids with that same time off...or kids who are not in a traditional school setting or whatever. I've never seen a cruise with fewer than 15 kids in any age group.

No, the cruise line will not tell you about bookings in advance, but the cruise director and/or child care staff will release the numbers after boarding

We're booked on this cruise and my sister is bringing her 2-year-old, lol. We have early traditional dining, in case anyone wants to avoid us.;)

All kidding aside, it's five adults vs. one toddler, so there's always someone available to escort the toddler out if it gets to be too much.

So in answer to your question, there will be at least one child, but it's too bad he isn't the same age as your children.

We were on the Crown last spring break for a 10 day and there were lots of kids on board. We had our 15 year old with us and she hung out with many of them.

I don't think April 8th would correspond with many, if any, spring break periods.

(we hope not, we're on it ;))

We've been on many 10 Mexico cruises, though not on the the Ruby -- there were always some kids, but not a lot. They're likely to get more attention is the kids program compared the periods that attract a lot of families with kids.

I was once on a Panama cruise with four kids on board. On our latest PP, there were three (and two belonged to the captain.) As you get closer to the date, Princess will be able to tell you how many there will be. You son't see too many photos of the kids' facilities because they don't allow you to take pictures when there are children present. The few I've seen were staged by Princess with actors.

Yes I don't like to many kids myself!

I'm not sure when many of the school districts on the west coast have spring break this year, but I do know that the LAUSD (which is the second biggest school district in the country) always takes off the week leading to Easter...and this year, Easter is in late March. Some of the private religious schools in LA take off the following week so they'll be back in school too. So if the Ruby is leaving from LA, then probably not a lot of kids, unless homeschooled. If leaving from SF, then it would depend on when the Northern Caifornia schools take off. One thing that would also affect kids missing school (which a ten day cruise would mean) is that state testing is now in April and schools tend to strongly discourage students from missing those.

As for photos and videos, the only ones that would be allowed (if at all) would be on the first day when registration is going on before activities start. Otherwise photography isn't allowed for privacy reasons.

The Princess kids' program starts at age 3, unless things have changed in the last few years. A parent can take a two-year-old to play there during certain times but wouldn't be able to drop off that young of a child.

Sounds like your TA must not have called.

If you call Princess they will tell how many on your cruise by age groups.

Of course being spring break it will probably change between now and then

The kids are going to have a great time. We are sailing tomorrow, and my grandchildren are so excited about getting to the kids' club and eating their favorite foods on deck and in the dining room. I find that almost all kids really take to cruising. (The "free" ice cream is always a big hit.) :)

We're going on this cruise with 2 boys 6 and 3 years old. We called prior to booking and was told there are about 20 kids in the 3-7 age group. So it looks like our kids will have company.

Thank so much for this info. We are going on this cruise, so excited. Did you call just recently? My daughters name is Jade, she is 6, maybe our kids will get along well on the cruise.

Yes, I just called yesterday and that's the count they have us. Glad to know mine aren't the only ones on board! My 6 year old's name is Connor. I'm sure they will meet each other on the ship!
