OBC vs $ Back

With some cruise lines the way they "refund" will vary by the amount to be refunded. Getting it back is cash is the least likely, as they will try to make sure you spend the money on board. Just like so many other businesses that give you store cash cards, or similar.

If you are before final payment, you pay the lower price which is equivalent to cash back. If after, you can use OBC as cash to offset gratuities charged to your account. Either way, this translates to real cash saving in your pocket.
