Life on Liberty 2/21-2/28: Mo'Bay, GC, Cozumel

Recommended Posts

So every night at dinner our waiters would give us suggestions from the menu. By the way, our waiters were wonderful--in fact, all of the waitstaff we encountered both at breakfast and dinner were really fantastic.

Anyway, Alicia's suggestion for an appetizer was the smoked fish rillettes. Which to me, sounded terrible. I'll just have a shrimp cocktail, thank you. So we all got shrimp cocktails and ceasar salads to start. But Alicia would not be deterred and brought us the fish rillettes also.

And holy cow, it was delicious. Get this dish the first night, it was one of the best all week! We ended up ordering more.

After that, we decided to listen to Alicia.

For our entrees, I got the horseradish crusted salmon and hubby got the pork chop. I thought the salmon was good but after 2 rolls and 3 appetizers, I was already stuffed. This theme would continue throughout the week!

Hubby said is pork chop was fine, possibly slightly overdone.

For dessert hubby and I shared the blueberry-peach crumble which was good and BFF got the sherbet. The sherbet was a different flavor every night.

Just loving this , we tried to go to the spot for dinner the night before we sailed , 2-3 hour wait .... Who knew it was so popular ... Will be booking a reservation there and at the black pearl for May

Yeah we were lucky--it was still really crowded at 2:00 on a Saturday in February! You can sit at any of the bars in the complex and order from the same food menu, just the drinks will be different.

beachie - random casino question for you. Your photo of the UTH table got Mr Wolf all excited. But we noticed it is in the entrance area which is the non smoking pit. Did you notice if there is another UTH table inside the casino? Wondering if they have two tables. He doesn't smoke so that's not a "deal" but he's not crazy about being in the area where people are constantly walking back and forth. He likes being IN the casino.

Splendid review and pics. Thanks fellow Dallasite!

No, sorry. Here is another picture but I don't think it helps as it's just poker I think. But there were lots of tables. They did make the casino smoke free one night of the week also just FYI.

So after we all rolled out of the dining room, we went upstairs to our rooms to unpack--hubby and I do not like living out of suitcases on vacation. We like to unpack and feel settled.

Once that chore was out of the way, we all went down to the casino to try our luck on the slots. We won $400 on the first night of our Carnival cruise last year and wanted to see if our cruise slot luck would continue. We all put in $20 on our favorite game, Wheel of Fortune. We won $40 on a spin and played that down to our original $60 and cashed out. We also all got our free slot pull from the cashier for being Gold cardholders. Since we are lowly Gold members, we didn't expect anything, but we actually got a few perks that were in our paperwork on the first day in our room. So look for that if you're Gold.

Anyway, none of us won anything on that so we decided to go up to Olive or Twist where they were having 80's hour with DJ Tony. Being a child of the '80's myself, I love 80's music. It was really fun and lots of people were dancing.

I got another delicious mai tai and enjoyed the view.

Then it was over to the Schooner Bar to hear the guitarist Voytek. Hubby is a guitar teacher and he actually saw Voytek on his very first cruise in 2001. He was very excited to see he was here again. I was sad that there weren't very many people there to see him but I shouldn't have worried because after this, it was standing room only every night. If you get the chance to see him, don't miss it!

Afterwards, we finally made our way back to our room, stopping long enough to lose $60 on WOF in the casino. I checked my phone before bed and saw we had walked 11,544 steps! It was a great first day!

Day 2 started at 7:15 am and I headed straight to the balcony.

Around 8:00, the boys went to work out at the gym. I do not work out on vacation. I work out religiously every other week of the year, so I figure on vacation I can just relax.

The boys were going to hit the Windjammer for breakfast but I was still full from dinner last night. I knew I needed water so I went down to Café Promenade for some pastries and bottled water and ate those out on the balcony.

We had our Meet & Mingle scheduled for 11:00 so hubby and I just killed time wandering around. We saw there was a chapel so we went up to see it.

We sat on Deck 12 by the elevators and killed time people watching. This little area overlooked the jogging track and Splashaway Bay.

We went up to Olive or Twist for the M&M.

There were a ton of people at the M&M but we really didn't do any meeting or much mingling. There were cookies, juice and water and the activities director made a speech and then everyone got raffle tickets and they raffled off wine, champagne, and RC backpacks. We all got a RC pad and a pen as our gift for attending. I used the pen the whole trip to take my notes.

At the end, our organizer Karen/Internetwhiz got up and announced that anyone who wanted to could view her room. She was staying in the Ben & Jerry's "Sweet." She also announced that the couple staying in the most expensive suite on the ship, the Royal Suite, was opening their suite for viewing also. I was like, heck yeah, I want to see that because this will be my only chance to see it ever in my life.

So we went with the couple to their suite and they were just the nicest couple ever and they let us gawk and walk everywhere and take all the pictures we wanted and it was super cool! They had organized a huge group and were hosting them that day for a champagne reception and they even invited us, which we thought was so nice but we would have felt bad crashing their party. They had been gracious enough already.

Here are the pictures I took--they don't even begin to capture how amazing it was!

Beachiekeen was nice enough, super nice actually to email these to me and a lot of others.

I am hoping that it will be helpful to her if I post these on my google drive

and post the link here where anybody else who wants them can just go get them there.

IF, I have this figured out right. If it didn't work I'm sure someone will be nice enough to let me know.

More of the Royal Suite:

The balcony was amazing--huge with it's own private hot tub. It was so fun seeing how the other half lives!

Next we went to Karen's suite and gawked there too. It was set up cute and the neat thing about this room is that it comes with suite perks even though it is priced the same as a regular promenade room. Pretty "sweet" (sorry, I couldn't resist.)

Around 5:00, BFF had his luggage but we didn't have ours yet. We were getting hungry and had this great idea: we would go down to the dining room early and beat the crowd.

Yeah, no, that's not what happened. We instead entered into complete chaos. There were lines and people all over the place. The crew was handing out free champagne, probably hoping to avoid an all-out riot. We finally got up to the front and were handed a pager and pretty much told "don't call us, we'll call you." So we went back to the Schooner Bar to wait it out until 7:00 when our pager went off.

This is the 2nd review I've read that mentions the chaos for mtd on the first night. Any suggestions about how to avoid it...other than the buffet? Reservations or just show up????
