electricron Posted October 21, 2005 #101 Share Posted October 21, 2005 It would be nice if every cruise line reported the status of every ship, but none do. Why? Legal history, and maritime acts over the years. Let's take this train of thought a major step forward. Let's say every business in the transportation business reports the status on every vehicle. Every airline reporting the condition of every plane, every cruise line reporting the condition of every ship, every bus line reporting the condition of every bus, every passenger train line reporting the condition of every engine and every car, every taxi company reporting the condition of every car or minibus. Did I forget a means of transportation? Not one does, why should cruise lines be singled out? I don't think they should...........
Goldryder Posted October 21, 2005 #102 Share Posted October 21, 2005 A holiday is what you make it, go away with negatives and you have a negative experience. Life is too short to be negative, so be positive and open minded, take the rough with the smooth and be adventurous. Keep searching for all the negatives and the positives will just pass you by unnoticed.
Don Haynes Posted October 22, 2005 #103 Share Posted October 22, 2005 Its seem mother nature may have done more to change the Dream's fothcoming intineraries for the next few months than the Dream being down one diesel engine.... It appears Wilma has hit Cozumel, Cancun, and Calico hard, the Mexcian government may decide to close the ports for a length of time to rebuild. For sure, last week's and this week's cruises were more affected by Wilma then the ship being down one diesel. The question remains though, whether NCL continues to book the cruises with these ports in mind, or whether they shouldn't. Right now, the decision has to be made as far as Sunshine is concerned, even though NCL is still waiting for word from the Mexican government, who have not had time to access the damage of Wilma as yet. Otherwise, NCL will be selling cruises with the wrong intineraries.....misleading and misinforming future cruisers while at the same time not knowing when exactly the initial cruises can be reinstated..... Its the same situtation as far as I am concerned with the ship being downed one engine.....
Goldryder Posted October 22, 2005 #104 Share Posted October 22, 2005 According to this report, Cancun has over 26ft of flooding. Like you say, its going to take a fair while for the various countries affected to rebuild, if indeed all of them do. http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-13452574,00.html The thing is though, the engine fault is something 'physical' that can be grumbled about, whereas Wilma and the other hurricanes are something to be put up with and a fact of life in many areas. There will always be those who just want to sit and complain about something, yet they never give serious or workable remedies for those 'somethings'. Don Haynes Posted October 22, 2005 #105 Share Posted October 22, 2005 From Sunshine's point of view every televison manufacturer is misleading the public. With the Senate subcommittee yesterday voting to kill analog broadcasting on April 7, 2009.....all of these analog televions every retail store is selling today and in the near future is unethical, as she would say, "Why sell something that has a lifetime of ten years that won't work in three years?" As I recall high definition digital televisions were being phased in, all sets larger than 40 inches had to be HD ready by Jan. 1, 2005, HD installed sets larger than 20 inches by Jan 1, 2006, and HD installed of every television sold in America by Jan. 1, 2007. Now the Senate has set the deadline for the elimination of analog broadcasting.

Us Brits are infront of you again...:D Our analogue somethings are scheduled to go sooner than your analogue somethings....and we got warned before you too...its a good job I bought my HD 42" plasma earlier this year...or I might have something to complain about:rolleyes:

Carolyn1950 Posted October 22, 2005 #109 Share Posted October 22, 2005 I am just off the Oct 15 sailing.. The 200. included our goverment taxes and fees. And there was 3 of us so the credit was actually around 25.00.. It is 200.00 off a future cruise limited to the first 2 paying customers..[First 2 passengers get 100 each off a future cruise..] It is a very misleading credit.. Don't spend it yet:rolleyes: Got this from my TA yesterday. We werer originally booked on the Dream on the 22nd before we switched to the Sun on the 23rd. I am writing you to inform you about changes to your itinerary just announced by Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL). NCL has sent the following Important Update: "Due to a technical problem affecting Norwegian Dream's speed, we will be unable to call into Roatan, Bay Island, Honduras and Cancun, Mexico. Instead we will be spending a full day in Progreso, Mexico on Monday followed a call to Cozumel, Mexico on Tuesday. Because of this schedule change, guests will receive a $50 per person onboard credit (maximum $100 per stateroom, including 1st and 2nd guest), applicable to all items excluding the Casino and service charges. This credit includes reimbursement for government taxes and fees, if applicable. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience by the change and thank you in advance for your understanding." My question though, is why did the people on the 15th sailing get a $100 credit per person and $100 towards a future cruise. And why does this $50 credit include reimbursement for government taxes and fees. After our problem with Carnival I was starting to be real happy with Norwegian but this is giving me doubts about them.:( Cody
Don Haynes Posted October 22, 2005 #110 Share Posted October 22, 2005 Finally, an educated guess is all you want from NCL? What if the educated guess is wrong, and NCL is off in guessing by a few weeks, you would still be on their case for advertising and selling false intineraries.... But you would never agree, will you? As for informing booked passengers, how would you do so? By phone, email, or by a letter? What if your educated guess of time to repair is wrong? We are talking thousands and thousands of passengers.....I doubt seriously if everyone could be contacted.....unlike travel agents.....who can be informed with a press release.....and which NCL did...... NCL's personal relations people are busy booking cruises, attempting to rebook the Sun, and now it seems rebooking every ship in the fleet because of the wreckage of Wilma, Rita, and Katrina. I don't think they have the time to inform everyone..... And even if they did have the time, they would run up against email blockers and phone blockers.....and a letter could and would easily be tossed away as spam too..... onegooddoggy Posted October 22, 2005 #111 Share Posted October 22, 2005 I thing that the word is out about the Dream. I was booked on the Oct 15 sailing, but cancelled when I was informed of the changes. During the past week my local TA here in the Twin Cities was advertising the Oct 22 cruise for $299 per person for outsides and insides. This price, plus $175 per person port charges and government fees, and plus the $70 per person for gratuities billed to the shipboard account, included round trip air from here to Houston, transfers to/from the pier, and the cruise. If my math is correct, this works out to $544 per person for a complete cruise from home and back. NCL must be taking it in the shorts.
