yamanid Posted April 9, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2016 (edited) Hi All, Just wondering if anyone can help with ideas whilst in ATHENS SANTORINI and MYKONOS that we can do on our own Thanks in advance :) Edited April 9, 2016 by yamanid
jeanlyon Posted April 9, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2016 (edited) You can certainly do Santorini on your own. Take the cable car up to the town and just wander around. We took a bus ride also. Please don't ride up on the donkeys, they are ill cared for and thirsty :-( Have you checked this site for ideas? Here is the info on Athens http://www.cruisecritic.co.uk/ports/newport.cfm?ID=110 Edited April 9, 2016 by jeanlyon

kruzgal Posted April 10, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 10, 2016 Use the Ports of Call section on this forum to research. It's a brilliant resource with hundreds of posts from people who have planned their days diy. Use the search button to narrow down to a specific place if needed. http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=

lovelyjubbly Posted April 10, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 10, 2016 We hired a car for the day in Santorini which allowed us to see all of the island. Mykonos is another Greek beach resort, I think there's a resort called St John's (check cc threads) where you can hire a sun bed and use their facilities for the day. kruzgal Posted April 10, 2016 #9 Share Posted April 10, 2016 I think it is the best way to research the ports of call. I have used it for years and it has saved us hundreds, if not thousands of pounds. We have sometimes used it to select a local tour guide and sometimes gone completely diy using public transport. Both have been successful and in over 10 years of cruising we have never had a problem doing shore excursions this way. Good luck!

broadbent Posted April 12, 2016 #13 Share Posted April 12, 2016 We had a problem at Mykonos finding a taxi back to port. We did find a private car willing to charge us.
