Miami Shore Excursion

Has anyone done the florida everglades shore excursion tour with a transfer to either FLL or MIA when leaving the ship? If so, how was it? What do you do with your luggage? Put it out the night before, take it with you?

I can't comment on the excursion, but can tell you that I did look into this for our Breeze cruise that we just returned from (had a late 9:30pm flight out and needed to tie up some time). I did do a lot of research on it and read a lot of the reviews and they didn't seem too great. Most said it was such a waste of money and time. Almost all said they didn't see anything (such as gators) and it was basically just a boring boat ride. I believe they load your luggage onto the bus you take and it stays with you all day during the tour. I believe you would get off the ship the same as any others, meaning you can put your luggage out the night before and pick it back up after getting off the ship and then meet at the site for the excursion at the port. At least that was my understanding when I was reading up on it.

What did you do to end up killing time instead of the excursion?

I did it several years ago. I don't recall all the details, but (at least at that time) it included the airboat ride and a stop at an alligator farm. I don't recall whether the airboat left from the alligator farm or whether they were separate stops.

I'm originally from Louisiana, so swamps and alligators don't get really me excited, but it was a decent way to kill a few hours before a late afternoon flight, considering (at least at the time) it was a reasonable price when you considered the cost of an airport transfer alone.

We did the excursion several years ago and really enjoyed it. Not too many gators up our way. Ever since watching flipper as a child it has been on my bucket list. No regrets and a great way to pass time before a flight.

I have done it out of Port Canaveral and Miami. It is a nice way to pass the time before a flight and not much more expensive that the fare to the airport. You put your bags out the night before, pick them up, and just go through customs with everyone else. Outside the terminal you meet the bus and they store your luggage. I am probably going to do it again in January. It is not a knock your socks off type of excursion, but it is enjoyable.

DH and I did this in May 2014 and LOVED IT! It was so much fun. We got normal excursion tickets (just like at the other ports) and were told to meet in the lounge at a certain time WITH our luggage. So, that's what we did and then we were escorted off the ship with our excursion group and our luggage was loaded onto the tour bus (a charter bus). It stayed there until they dropped us at the airport. We had a 3:15pm flight on Delta and I believe we were dropped off around 12:30/12:45pm so we had plenty of time.

As for the actual excursion, we loved it. However, we were not allowed to use the bathroom on the bus and the ride out there is 30-45 minutes so if you need to pee, do so at the POM before you leave (ahem). Also, try to get near the front of the boat for the best photos. If you'd like to see some pics, let me know and I'll be happy to share!

I'm pretty sure they go to holiday everglades park (name might not be exactly right but it has holiday in it). We've gone twice but not on the carnival excursion. We rented a car. National has a free shuttle from POM to MIA. So we rode that and picked up a car. Drove to the everglades, did our thing and drove back. Great way to spend the day.
