Rare Btimmer Posted May 24, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2016 I have been blogging daily reports from aboard the Koningsdam during the 2 weeks of the Christening Cruise. Now that we have chaned to the Vijing Sagas cruise has begun I'll put comments here and continue to post in the same blog. The link is: http://www.timmer2016europe.blogspot.com We're about to depart from Flåm and do scenic cruising down one of Norway's big fjords for a couple hours. It's gorgeous here and the Flåm train is not to be missed.

Rare Btimmer Posted May 25, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted May 25, 2016 Very nice, thank you! How do you like the new Konigsdam so far? We like it. She's been a nice ship to sail on. Just now entering Stavenger, the biggest city in Norway we've seen so far.
Rare Btimmer Posted May 25, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted May 25, 2016 We just had a fabulous day in Stavanger. We've cast off and are on our way to Kristiansand. We did a Viking Tour and a Pulpit Rock Cruise. Both were excellent. More later when I write my daily blog. BTW, the weather has been fabulous!! OceanPatter Posted May 26, 2016 #7 Share Posted May 26, 2016 (edited) We're also on this 7-day cruise, and I need to amend what I wrote on Tim's other thread about the Koningsdam. There have been two gala nights so far, and tonight's dinner in the MDR was quite good ... we had the lobster tail and filet mignon ... both delicious! And we dined last night at the Culinary Arts restaurant, and what a treat that was. I'm sure this new venue will catch on. We're also enjoying the musicians at the LincolnCenter stage. And we can't say enough about the warm hospitality of the Indonesian crew. So far so good! Edited May 26, 2016 by OceanPatter

Rare Btimmer Posted May 27, 2016 Author #9 Share Posted May 27, 2016 Tim are you doing ship's tours - or private? We've done a combination of tours. On this leg we did HAL's Pulpit Rock in Stavanger and the Flåm Railway in Flåm. Both were worth it except that if one can get a private Flåm RR ticket way cheaper if you buy it far in advance as the ship buys up several cars when they are in port. The other excursions were arranged for by CC members. Today in Oslo, we're taking a walking tour organized by Rose on CC. If anyone wants specific pictures of areas of the ship, let me know today and I'll take them tomorrow during our sea day on the sailing back to Amsterdam. Rare Btimmer Posted May 27, 2016 Author #11 Share Posted May 27, 2016 Today we did a 5 hour walking / tram tour of Oslo including the Fort, Opera House, Downtown, City Hall, and Sculpture Park. It was a great private tour. Opera house From the roof of the Opera House with the Koningsdam in the background. Sculpture Park looking towards town. Monolith Sculpture in the Sculpture Park. I'll compose more detail tonight and post in a couple days when we reach Amsterdam. We are really positively impressed by Norway and need to return. We couldn't take in any museums today. Rare Btimmer Posted May 27, 2016 Author #12 Share Posted May 27, 2016 We're just about to depart from Oslo. I'll have lots of pics available once we get home in July. What I've posted is just the tip of the iceberg.
Rare Btimmer Posted May 29, 2016 Author #13 Share Posted May 29, 2016 This portion of our trip is complete and we left the ship and took the train to Heidelberg, Germany. I'll continue to post to my blog, but won't make further reference here unless there is a specific post pertaining to the cruise. For those who are interested, the next three weeks involve riding our motorcycle to cities in Germany associated with Grimm Brothers fairy tales.
