fred 15 Posted June 4, 2016 #6 Share Posted June 4, 2016 Thanks, IRA. Thinking of doing the Canal next year. Did O have a good intro to the transit of the canal? I mean commentary, films, etc?
deus Posted June 4, 2016 #7 Share Posted June 4, 2016 Thanks for posting your pictures. How big or small is the shower?
Mura Posted June 5, 2016 #8 Share Posted June 5, 2016 I am not the OP. The showers in the veranda cabins ("A" and below") on the "R" ships (Regatta, etc.) are TINY. If that is a problem for you, you want a PH or above. Or suck in your gut ... Then again, if you are very tall ... forget it! Mura
deus Posted June 5, 2016 #9 Share Posted June 5, 2016 Thanks Mura. My husband is 196cm (6'5") - I am not going to tell him that the shower will be a little tight. Eek! As for getting a penthouse - we have already paid for that but are only in veranda - Canadian exchange rate not so great.

I_r_a Posted June 5, 2016 Author #11 Share Posted June 5, 2016 hi deus, i'm 5'7" and of proper girth for a burgermeister. i found the shower tight but not confining. ira
Hawaiidan Posted June 5, 2016 #12 Share Posted June 5, 2016 I much prefer the shower in the regular cabins ( the same for inside to veranda) to the larger but awakward tub/shower in the PH... stepping up and over and around the glass....a real hassel... Gimme the plain standup one... they are small, but at 6 ft I find them just fine....
deus Posted June 5, 2016 #13 Share Posted June 5, 2016 Thanks Dan and "Burgermeister". I still will not tell better half of the potential shower issue. He is an easy going guy - so I will wait to hear about the first shower experience.

Mura Posted June 5, 2016 #16 Share Posted June 5, 2016 We've done two crossings with O -- in 2004 on Regatta and last year on Marina. They had excellent commentary on both cruises. I believe these were not crew, but were from the Canal organization. Don't remember films ... One of the lecturers on the first cruise gave several superb lectures on the Canal as well as other aspects of life in the area, and of course the history. Rare LHT28 Posted June 5, 2016 #18 Share Posted June 5, 2016 Anybody? We have done 3 transits with O 2 had David McCullough (A Path Between the Seas, author) as the narrator during the transit The other was a speaker from the Canal authority I think both were informative

Mura Posted June 5, 2016 #20 Share Posted June 5, 2016 Mura - you are a funny bunny! I trust you are referring to my comment about the soap! In that small space, someone 6'5" would find it difficult, I think, to fish up a dropped bar of soap! Mura
