Electric Adapters Needed???

Since the Divina is a European designed ship, I am wondering if I should bring along a European Adapter/Converter (s) for use in the cabin. DH and I will have electric shaver, hair dryer, electric mobility scooters that all require charging, in addition to USB ports for phones, cameras, and tablets.

Usually when we cruise on RCI or X I bring along a power strip to facilitate in our charging needs and hair drying needs.

If you think we should bring these along, can anyone recommend which to purchase? I am clueless as to what I would need to get. HELP!!!!

The entire fleet has both US and European ((2 pin) outlets, so you can just bring your normal US appliances without an adaptor.

I'm bringing a couple Euro to US adapters, because we need lots of plugs... And 2 US plugs on the desk won't cut it (there are more in bathroom). Usually power strips are frowned upon, so I don't want to mess with that.

The ship has a hair dryer in the stateroom, by the way...

The bathroom outlets will charge small items, but they are onlylive when the bathroom light is on, and when you take your card out of the slot upon leaving the cabin, those lights go out. EM

You can put any plastic credit card type of card in the slot and it'll give power to the room . you don't have to use your cruise card, so you can power things up whilst you are out of your cabin. Your cabin steward will also think you are in there as the tell tale light is on above the door in the corridor.

FYI, There is a rule on the ship that no devices are to be left plugged in to charge when the room is unoccupied. The cabin stewards have standing instructions to unplug any device found charging in an unoccupied cabin.

IN my experience they leave cameras, phones, kindles etc alone and don't unplug them.

I have never sailed MSC before, but my other cruises were no problem to leave electronics charging. My hair straightener though, unplugged every time (I power it off out of habit, not unplug).

I was just relaying information that was stated in the daily planner about charging devices in an empty cabin.

I don't know what is done in practice as we only have camera batteries that may need to be charged overnight.

Don't shoot the messenger; I was just trying to give a head's up on MSC's stated policy.

Instead of doing an individual thank you to each of you, please accept this response of gratitude to each of you for your answers, statements of record, photos, and opinions. I really appreciate it very much.

Yes you are correct that power strips are usually frowned upon, we only utilize it when present in the cabin. It will either have usb outlet charger in place or at night will have the power chargers for the 2 electric scooters we will have in the cabin. Those have to be charged nightly in order to have enough power for getting around either on board or in ports.

We too, don't leave anything plugged in when not in cabin. Well almost never...

I may just look into getting 1 or 2 European ones and bring them along for just in case purposes. Never know when one will come in handy down the line. Like maybe when we finally get to go overseas... (hint, hint DH) LOL!

As far as the hairdryer in cabin, ladies do you find it strong/powerful enough to dry you hair and do you duoos??? Are they like the regular hairdryers that we all know? Not the weird ones that used to be on RCI's Empress of the Seas way back when... big box that hung on the wall in bathroom with a handle at the end of a tube that was as big as the old brick style cell phones. I had the worst hair style for those 11 night sailings. Learned my lesson and I always pack mine with me.

Pete thanks for the heads up on the slot/power deal. I always have in my wallet either an old hotel room card key that was never left in the room I can use. Else can use one of my casino players cards that I also keep in wallet. :D

Another suggestion: as you are traveling with scooters that need to be charged, contact MSC special needs (or have your travel agent do it) and request an extension cord for your cabin for the scooter.

The extension cord will have the European plug but will have an adapter for the USA current and can be used with the scooter.

Once on board, go to Guest Services to request the cod.

When we were on our cruise, my daughter's boyfriend traveled with a CPAP machine. We contacted Special Needs before the cruise to request the cord.

There is an outlet behind the headboards which needs a tool to access. An appointment will be made to come to your cabin (someone must be there), the outlet will be opened and the extension cord plugged in for use.

One thing I've found is that it can be difficult to fit 2 adaptor son side by side as the outlets are so close together and some adaptor so are a bit on the chunky side! I now use a universal one that is more of a cube size and has 2 USB slots so I can charge 2 devices at the same time.

Yes I have done so already. That is something that we need to do every time we cruise. We have to tell them who is delivering the scooters and their measurements. That is when I make the request for the heavy duty extension cord as well as other items we need in the cabin. :)

Yes I agree with you when it comes to the charging plugs and outlets. I have the kind that allow for multiple outlet as well as USB plugs. :)

For those Americans looking to sail MSC Meraviglia there will be 2 220 volt outlets with usb and 2 110 volt outlets with usb. Here is a pic of the new configuration:
