Joe12 Posted July 11, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 11, 2016 Hello CC! Just back from our Summer Vacation onboard Anthem of the Seas. I'm Joe from Glasgow, Scotland and I am a cruise fanatic! Anthem was my 10th cruise and we received a crystal block this cruise for reaching 140 points. Before we start, here's the ship!
Joe12 Posted July 11, 2016 Author #2 Share Posted July 11, 2016 (edited) We started our journey at 6am on Friday the 24th and left for Edinburgh Airport. At about 6.40am, we arrived. We checked in for our flight. At Edinburgh Airport, in the check in line, there are people asking you about your holiday, presumably for security reasons. These folks seemed friendly but slightly fake in terms of how they were talking to you. Here is the Terminal Edited July 11, 2016 by Joe12
Joe12 Posted July 11, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted July 11, 2016 We headed up the escalator. Then through security and Duty Free (where I didn't take any photos) and into the Terminal. We had booked the No1 lounge at the Airport. It was pretty good. Here's the interior.
Joe12 Posted July 11, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted July 11, 2016 (edited) The breakfast was OK, but I wanted something really big to keep me going for many hours until dinner that night as I would only be eating snacks on the flight. So we went to Wetherspoons. Here was the menu. I had the Traditional Breakfast. Very Tasty! Edited July 11, 2016 by Joe12
Joe12 Posted July 11, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted July 11, 2016 Soon we headed to the gate for our flight. Then we were onboard. We had booked United's Economy Plus which was excellent. Lots of legroom!
Joe12 Posted July 11, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted July 11, 2016 Here was the interior of the plane. The plane was a 757, which IMO is too small and cramped for a 7 hour T/Atl flight. But we were in E+ so that was fine. I got quite bored towards the end of the flight and decided to use a new method of storing trash on a plane. Just stuff it inside a tub of Pringles! hansolosmom Posted July 11, 2016 #11 Share Posted July 11, 2016 I agree with you on the flight, although I hate flying longer than 3 hours :) Can't wait to hear about the trip. Thanks for taking the time to do this
Joe12 Posted July 14, 2016 Author #12 Share Posted July 14, 2016 Lets keep going, shall we? We arrived in Newark and got a taxi to the hotel. It got us to Manhattan conveniently although the driver was not particularly friendly. We spent 6 nights at the Crowne Plaza Times Square. (Terrible picture, sorry) We were unable to check in straight away so we took a wander around the 5th avenue area. In Barnes and Noble, I found this. A bit vague to say the least. After some time around 5th Avenue, we headed back to the hotel and past this restaurant. We have been here before and would not recommend Lindy's because it was really expensive. The food was all right but overpriced for the quality, IMO. Then back to the hotel and the room was ready. We had a room on the 43rd floor (I think it was 4305) and we really enjoyed it. Here is the picture of the room (not good again either). Here was the view. We relaxed in the hotel until it was time for Dinner.
Joe12 Posted July 14, 2016 Author #13 Share Posted July 14, 2016 Dinner tonight was at John's Pizzeria, our favourite place in New York. It can get very busy but as we had came in from Europe, we were here pretty early and got seated straight away. You get complementary water here but I also had some Pineapple Juice. For Starter I had the Chicken Wings, which were too spicy for me. Instead I tried some Sausage Pizza Rolls, which were very nice. Also some Garlic Bread. For Main Course, we all shared a large Hawaiian Pizza, I mean LARGE. I was stuffed. No photo, sorry.

Jenjer Posted July 15, 2016 #18 Share Posted July 15, 2016 I know it kind of seems like a no brainer, more cruise days the better but its also more stuff missed, work, swim meets, water polo games. I really was hoping to sail Harmony since we loved Allure and Oasis and HOS has water slides. But she actually costs a little bit more for 7 days than Anthem will for 9 days. I am leaning toward Anthem.

Overtyme Posted July 16, 2016 #21 Share Posted July 16, 2016 Hi Joe, We were on the 6/30 cruise with you. I'm really enjoying your review as well. It's taking me a long time to get my review up, but in following yours with interest. I didn't take a lot of pictures of the ship itself became (1) I don't think that there is one that I could take that hasn't been posted already and (2) I wanted to live in the moment and not miss those moments by focusing on picture taking. Looking forward to reading more of your review. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Joe12 Posted July 27, 2016 Author #23 Share Posted July 27, 2016 (edited) Right, let's get back on track. After dinner, we headed past Trump Tower  We then went into the Starbucks at Columbus Circle for some dessert. I think I had a brownie. We then headed down 6th avenue and went under this mini waterfall. Then back to Times Square. We then went back to the hotel after being awake for 20 hours!
