Hello! We are a group of 17 leaving from San Juan on 11/20. We are arriving the afternoon before and check out of our room at the hotel at 11. Since our ship, the Gem, doesn't depart oil 9pm we have quite a bit of time to explore San Juan. Any suggestions on what to do with out bags while we do this since we will be checking out and not arriving at the port oil 5pm? Is it possible to check bags early at the ship and leave? Not first time cruisers, but first time with this dilemma! TIA!:)

The ship is scheduled to dock at 6 am they are usually earlier. You should easily be able to drop luggage off around 10:00am.

I would call for a large van, have luggage count available for the company that you use and have one or two persons go with the luggage. You will need to make sure all the luggage is tagged with NCL tags.I would also make sure to tip the baggage handler at the pier to make sure safe arrival of your luggage to the rooms.

If by chance a tag falls off during transport the baggae handler will have extra's, if your not sure of the cabin number just put your cabin number on tag.

If your hotel is central, you can probably ask there & they will hold your luggage for you until later in the day when you are ready to go to port. Sort of like if you arrive to hotel early, you can check your bags and run around before your room is ready.

We are on this cruise the week before and plan to have the hotel store the luggage, explore Old San Juan and then take a taxi over to the Pan American pier in the afternoon.

You will want to be on board for the life boat drill which will probably be around 4:30/5:00. You can head back out after the drill, but there is nothing near the Pan American pier so you would need to get a taxi or van to take you back into Old San Juan.
