Quick Report on MLife Experience

Recommended Posts

We spent three nights in Las Vegas at the beginning and end of a Grand Canyon vacation. I signed up for MLife (RCCL Diamond made us Gold in MLife). I got small room and show discounts. Probably the best perk for us was a special check-in line. The regular lines were very long. We aren't big gamblers, and forgot to show our cards when we did gamble. We didn't take advantage of the no-wait buffet lines or anything else. Signing up was quick and easy - if you're going to Las Vegas or other MGM properties, it's worth it.

Thanks. Did it also work for regular parking?

exactly what is mlife - does if only pertain to gambling in vegas? also where are other mgm hotels and how does that work - thanks

It's just a loyalty card/program for MGM. You can use it everywhere you pay at an MGM resort. Shows, food, gambling, etc. The idea is to keep you on their property by making you feel that you are earning valuable points and rewards for every dollar you spend.

MANY of the major hotels are owned by MGM and thus MLife on the strip. I personally see little value in it, though I have a card since it's free and you get a few perks. They basically force you to get it if you want to see a show or anything at an MGM hotel - the discount is substantial.

I certainly wouldn't make Vegas plans based on MLife perks, though. Personally, I find the AMEX Fine Hotels program the best way to go - though you can combine with MLife.

I have a different take on the Mlife benefits than the post directly above.

My experience is with Celebrity, however, so will try to report back when I realize my benefits with RCCL on an upcoming cruise.

We have earned gold status with Mlife (again this year) and also have earned our elite status on Celebrity.

First, when we book a cruise, we are offered a 20% discount albeit, this cannot be transferred to any other TA, so no additional perks. However, this has worked out to get substantial savings on a couple of my cruises with Celebrity. When I called RCCL for the same savings, it couldn't be done that far out so was not able to use this perk for booking.

When we sail on Celebrity, we take our Mlife cards with us to the casino and meet up with the casino host. On the few occasions when we used this, we got free drink coupons for use in the casino (once we did not have the beverage package so these came in handy), a free specialty dinner of our choice for two, some nicety delivered to our cabin (chocolate covered strawberries, a bottle of champagne, flowers and the like). The other benefits, such as priority boarding, were already gained through our Celebrity status. Anyway ... win win for us.

As far as traveling to Las Vegas, we have to maintain our gold status through play every year but can also keep our same status by default -- being elite on Celebrity (or Diamond or RCCL). However, to reap any of these benefits on the cruise (as listed above), our Mlife status has to be maintained through play in Las Vegas. No benefits are given on a cruise simply because you are given a status with Mlife based on our cruise history alone. Hope that makes sense. But, since we have both elite status on Celebrity and gold status (earned instead of by default), we were able to stay at Mandalay Bay for NYE plus 2 more nights complimentary. Again, win win for us.

We really aren't huge gamblers by any means but do go to Vegas a few times a year. We are not huge gamblers...but that is subjective, right? We've enjoyed what Celebrity and hopefully what RCCL provides to us through this relationship. I hope they keep it forever ... but that is a really long time to expect such benefits.

Just of note, Mlife properties are now charging for parking at their casino locations in Vegas. The fee is waived if you have Gold Status or above - which can come from either play in Vegas or your elite / diamond status or above.

I'll always take benefits over no benefits. But personally, the MGM properties are not my favorite. Mandalay Bay is nice, however. I just don't think MLife offers enough to warrant adjusting my Vegas plans to make sure I play at MGM resorts or stay at their resorts, I think that's my point.

If you are getting comped rooms at Mandalay, etc... then I would find it worth it I guess, but not if I have to go and stay at their hotels on my other trips just to get it. There is other ways to get perks.

Glad you are able to make the most of the programs.

We do like Mandalay Bay a lot but love when they give us rooms at the Delano even more. I only pointed out M-Bay because they gave us that one for NYE. We have gotten the Aria and most recently, the Bellagio ... both are excellent. But, I know what you mean, it does tend to make us only gamble at their establishments.

Actually, the parking fees are comped for Pearl level and higher.

Thanks, that was what I was trying to figure out. If the Mlife status achieved via diamond status would get me the free parking.

Glad to be of help. Another post mentions that the free parking is for pearl status or higher ... so even better!

I know that the Mirage said we'd have to pay for early check in even though the room was ready, which has not happened before with having gold status through Mlife. The Bellagio, however, incurred no additional charge and we checked in around 9 AM. I think it might actually be based on who the reservation clerk is ... some try a little harder than others.

Truth be told, they are all outstanding hotels. I don't have any particular loyalty - but do prefer only hotels in the AMEX program (which a few MGM properties are).

I just stayed at the Cosmo a couple weeks ago and I'd say its my favorite hotel so far, just a cool vibe - though a few minuses. Got about $1,000 in benefits just from AMEX on a 3 night stay, which is great.

I'll need to look at my MLife account though, who knows, maybe I have some other benefits there!

update: So I did just log in, have more points than I thought :) I could see this having some value as it translates into some Royal benefits. I take back my comment about it being piontless. But still not a big deal for me.

Silly question, but does anyone know if it is reciprocal? What I mean is, if being Diamond on RCL automatically makes you Gold with M-Life, does it work in reverse? If you are Gold or Platinum with M-Life does it automatically make you Diamond with RCL?

I find that if you are Gold on Mlife, the perks are quite good if you cruise with Royal. But if you are expecting good perks for when you visit Vegas, not so much. I mean, the free dinner, and the 5 free drink vouchers is quite nice :)

I just made Platinum on Royal and was able to get bumped up to pearl automatically on mlife, which is nice because I forsee a Vegas trip this year for us, which hopefully we can move up to Gold in that trip and reap some benefits for our Feb cruise.

Has anyone taken the "Entertainment Tour" that they offer for Pearl and above members? Or know what the "Welcome Amenity" is?

Just an FYI, my last vegas trip was over a year ago, stayed at Mandalay Bay (Very nice resort, terrible location on the strip), and gambled maybe 100.00 there, and I still routinely get free comp room offers from there (and other mlife resorts)

After gambling a little bit on the Oasis, I've been getting MORE offers daily, esp at properties like NYNY and Delano, for comp 2 nights as long as it's before March 2017 and not Dec 30-Jan 2nd. So not bad, they tempt me with the free 2 night because thats basically a cheap 3-4 day getaway for me, and would be easy to bump up levels with a little gambling and a couple shows :)

If you achieve gold status through play (or spend at Mlife properties), it will afford you Diamond benefits with RCCL (but you don't really get Diamond status).

However, because you have to earn and then maintain your Mlife status annually, your Diamond benefits on RCCL will go away if you revert back to sapphire status with Mlife.

So if gold on mlife, how do you go about getting the diamond status benefits on Royal? Do you have to book your cruise through mlife

Just need to mention a couple of things that sound like there might be a misunderstanding.

So, the platinum status bumps you up to pearl status with Mlife .... but to get to gold, you don't have to just earn (through play) the number of points it takes to get from pearl to gold ... you have to get ALL the points you need from Mlife play and spend to get to that gold status. And to get to gold is not an easy bump....it is tens of thousands of dollars run through the machines or at the tables (or other spend at Mlife properties). So, if you haven't been to Vegas in over a year, you will start trying to earn your gold status at ground zero!! You will still get pearl benefits by default from your cruising history.

Also, if your status with Mlife is based on what was given to you based on your RCCL / Celebrity status, you can not turn around and use that Mlife status for further benefits on the cruise.

I had forgotten to mention, though, when you link your Mlife card to your reservation on a cruise, you actually earn credits for Mlife while gambling on RCCL or Celebrity.

So, the entertainment tour is a back stage tour -- I did it once and that was plenty. Not really worth it IMO.

The welcome amenity can be something like a bottle of champagne, flowers or chocolate covered strawberries delivered to your cabin. I am sure people with higher statuses get more ... we've always been pleased with anything that comes our way with our gold status.

I might add ... it is only certain Diamond benefits that I think you will receive on RCCL. I don't believe you will be allowed into the Diamond Lounge .... but think you will get priority boarding and such.

Oh that really sucks! The lady on the phone explained it like I did in my post you quoted. She was probably just trying to get me to spend money in Vegas haha!

We were in Vegas August 2015, and almost got to pearl (we were 10 points shy) but didn't gamble as much as we were going to because we went to shows, dinners, etc. but yes you are correct, there is no way I could make it from Sapphire to Gold in one trip! I just thought I needed the 75k tier points it said I needed on my mlife account, which still is a stretch for me.

And while on Oasis I did manage to get them to link my mlife account to my casino account/card, but don't know how to look up how my table play was rated and only got 160 points for the whole cruise (the slots were extremely tight and didn't win anything back really on slots) , so I doubt I'll get any discount cruise offers, but am curious if the influx of Vegas offers I am getting is due to my Oasis gambling

Sorry ... didn't mean to burst your bubble, but sounded like maybe there was a misunderstanding on how to get to gold. 75K tier credits is a LOT of spending in Vegas.

OK ... as promised, I am checking back in after my RCCL cruise. On our first day of the cruise (it was 9/30 ... and our points with Mlife were to expire the next day .. whew!) and we went and met with the casino host. It helped that we brought our Mlife gold cards with us as he did ask for them. He went in the back room with our cards and came out with our drink coupons and explained we each get a dinner for two at one of the specialty restaurants.

We got a tray of goodies one night that included sweets (from the casino??) but were not invited to any of the special tours but have been on them before and really not interested in a repeat. I think it may have been an oversight as we met others that were going to the special galley tour ... but again, been there, done it or maybe would have inquired further.

We were again quite pleased with this program and hope they continue this relationship with Mlife.
