ehfl Posted December 9, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 9, 2016 The press release says that Empress will have a Solarium when it goes to Cuba... Does anyone know when it's being added? Where are they going to put it? http://www.royalcaribbeanpresscenter.com/press-release/1296/royal-caribbean-international-opens-sailings-to-cuba/
easyboy Posted December 9, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2016 (edited) It just implies that Empress will have the solarium when Cuba sailing is launched in April. No indication yet in other threads on start date. Sent from my iPad using Forums Edited December 10, 2016 by easyboy
Rare John&LaLa Posted December 10, 2016 #3 Share Posted December 10, 2016 I seriously doubt they can add a solarium. Must be a typo Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Forums mobile app
OceansOfTravels Posted December 10, 2016 #4 Share Posted December 10, 2016 I would be surprised if they could add a Solarium. Not too sure where they would put it. They could add another pool in that open deck space between the bar and the solo pool, but that's all I see them doing. It could be a typo ora miscommunication. seabeew Posted December 10, 2016 #5 Share Posted December 10, 2016 They could possibly enclose the deck 6 aft balcony behind Boleros. Due to its small area and lack of water features, I don't think it would provide much bang for the buck. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

ehfl Posted December 11, 2016 Author #8 Share Posted December 11, 2016 Maybe they'll just add one of these...
Thorben-Hendrik Posted December 11, 2016 #9 Share Posted December 11, 2016 They will use the space they saved by not building the solarium pool on Harmony!:D
OceansOfTravels Posted December 11, 2016 #10 Share Posted December 11, 2016 (edited) I wonder how long it'll be until the Cuban harbors get big enough to hold bigger ships. If Empress becomes a long-term commitment, maybe they have/will consider lengthening like they did Enchantment? The Norwegian Sky is 853' feet long and is going to be docking there, while the Empress is 689' feet long. I wonder if Royal has considered lengthening her, adding a Solarium pool, real balcony cabins, etc. Edited December 11, 2016 by OceansOfTravels
coaster Posted December 11, 2016 #11 Share Posted December 11, 2016 (edited) I would just be happy if the a/c is sufficient in the casino without fans on the floor and the lower decks of cabins. They already spent millions gutting her galleys after Pullmantur let her decline. Spending more on a solarium doesn't seem feasible to me. OceansOfTravels Posted December 12, 2016 #13 Share Posted December 12, 2016 I believe the problem with Havana is draft. There is a tunnel that prevents deepening it. Lengthening doesn't equal needing a deeper draft. The ship would have to be level, so it would still have the same draft as it does now, just a higher tonnage (which could lower its draft I guess but ultimately not too much) and a longer length. If that is a problem with Havana, then that will further support a reason for Royal to lengthen Empress like they did Enchantment years ago. True, but you also asked when the Cuban harbours would get big enough Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Forums mobile app
Biker19 Posted December 12, 2016 #15 Share Posted December 12, 2016 If Empress becomes a long-term commitment, maybe they have/will consider lengthening like they did Enchantment? That was a one-off very likely never to be repeated.
Clarea Posted December 12, 2016 #16 Share Posted December 12, 2016 That was a one-off very likely never to be repeated. Actually, Enchantment was the third ship that RC lengthened, after Nordic Prince and Song of Norway. However I agree that after Enchantment, they cancelled any plans they had to do it to other ships.
