NCl back to Cozumel next week

The following is taken from the NCL website 'News' section:

November 10, 2005 – The recovery and restoration of Cozumel, Mexico after Hurricane Wilma has been swift and successful. As such, Norwegian Cruise Line is pleased to report that Norwegian Dream, Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Majesty will be able to call into Cozumel next week as scheduled. Norwegian Dawn will return to Cozumel on its November 20 sailing as scheduled.

Unfortunately, Cancun is not ready to accept cruise ships yet and as such Norwegian Dream will not be able to call into Cancun until further notice. Norwegian Dream has a technical issue with one of the ship’s engines, which affects the maximum speed of the vessel. This will prevent the ship from making its scheduled call into Roatan; however, NCL is pleased to be able to offer as an alternative to Roatan a call into Progreso, Mexico.

The revised Norwegian Dream’s itinerary is as follows:

Day Port Arrive Depart

11/12 Sat Houston, Texas 4:00pm

11/13 Sun At Sea - - - -

11/14 Mon Progreso, Mexico 7:00 am 4:00pm

11/15 Tue Cozumel, Mexico 10:00pm 6:00pm

11/16 Wed Belize City, Belize 8:30am 6:00pm

11/17 Thu At Sea - - - -

11/18 Fri At Sea - - - -

11/19 Sat Houston, Texas 9:00am*

Because of the change from Roatan to Progreso, guests will receive a $50 per person onboard credit (maximum $100 per stateroom, including 1 st and 2 nd guest), applicable to all items excluding the Casino and service charges. This credit includes reimbursement for government taxes and fees, if applicable.

I haven't figured out how the Dream can arrive in Cosumel later than when it arrives. Typos happen everywhere, I believe we can safely assume it arrives at 10am vs 10pm.

I think we can pretty safely assume they mean 10AM.

All of the abuse NCL has taken on this board and they will be two of the first 6 ships allowed to return.

From Seatrader

"Mayor Gustavo Ortega Joaquin has said Cozumel is prepared to handle up to four cruise ships a day initially. Next Tuesday, four are scheduled: Star Princess, Norwegian Dream, Norwegian Sun and Jewel of the Seas."

Glad to see Cozumel back in the line-up. While I am disappointed that Roatan is scrapped (for now), I am thrilled that NCL has posted this information. Less guessing, speculating, and worrying involved when it is all right there in black and white. We do not sail until Dec. 10th; will be interesting to see if this new itinerary is in affect then, or if things will be different. Time will tell...hehehe!:D

While I'm glad to see Cozumel back on the schedule for the Dream, I'm so floored/annoyed with NCL.... I understand that they are honoring the bookings on the Dream, allowing those who want to cancel because of the itinerary change to do so and those who don't want to to continue on but I can't believe they are still booking and not scheduling a time to fix these blessed engines.... Ridiculous to have this ship sailing with engine issues... NCL has lost some respect from me for this... Amazing.......

What do you want them to do park the ship for 8 - 12 months and wait for a new engine to be built ? I just don't get it. 3 good engines , still working on the forth, adjusted itinerary for speed. Parking the ship will not spead up repairs.

It is too bad you will have to miss Roatan, it is a wonderful island and yet, it appears NCL may be dropping it altogether next year. You will still have 3 islands which offer a variety of activities and cultures. Enjoy your cruise, I am sure you will. NMNita

Will you be on the Majesty Debi or another ship?

We leave on the Dream next Saturday. I love stopping in Roatan and will really miss our visit to her; but, I have never been to Progreso and have read that there are some mayan ruins very close to the port, so I am now looking forward to exploring these and the new beaches. I am just happy to be getting on a great big ship next week, and relaxing and cruising.

Actually Shoreguy, Yes.......I understand them honoring current bookings as it's awful to disappoint cruisers already booked but I don't feel they should be booking new cruises if that ship isn't 100% operational... And part of operational is making the ports of call on the itinerary....To me at least... It's not right ot give cruisers who choose a particular cruise based on itinerary, a substandard vacation by not going to those ports...But that's my opinion... Considering it's been a good part of this year that it's been an issue, why haven't they built that new engine, sailed until it's ready, they go in and fix.. If it means the ship is sailing for 2-3 months, then so be it....Again, my opinion.......;)

If your business is partially damaged do you shut it completely down, give up all your income, and disappoint 75% of your customers that are happy with the limited remaining services. I think not.

You adjust your services, provide what you can, and stay in business. You don't park a multi million $ asset, completely disappoint 10s of thousands. Keep in mind the fares on the Dream reflect the quality of the ship.

Those that expect the Jewel at Dream prices need a reality check. The Dreamward was a great ship when I first cruised on her in the early 90s. The ship is at the end of here life as an NCL ship and the fares demonstrate it.

What you do not do is sell people things that you can not do. That is what we learned in kindergarten as being a lie. So - you do not post and sell an itinerary when there is a snow ball's chance that you can sail it. Passengers may have selected a different cruise if the ports had been listed as Progresso, Cozumel and Belize with one extra day at sea. That's all that NCL knew they could accomplish with the Dream. And we can safely assume that the Dream will limp into Belize, probably even later tahn posted as the arrival time is already later than originally posted (if in fact it ends up calling on the port at all).

Idea - what if NCL DID sell the cruise as Progresso, Cozumel, and Belize and then ADDED Roatan when they could go? NCL would be the best thing going and be talked about - pasengers would be raving fans. And yes, they could do this and the cost per passenger would be a minimal marketing expense in light of the PR repair and position it could create for them.

In light of everything that has happened / not happened, etc., the fact that Roatan has been completey removed from future itineraries lends any sensible, informed person to conclude that engine problems are not on the radar screen.

My point exactly.... I'm not talking about taking the ship out of commission now with cruisers already booked on her... But they should have stopped new bookings to fix this... This engine has been an issue since June.. If they advertise a certain itinerary and then don't go to that port (and new they couldn't make that port), that's not only not fair to the cruiser who booked it based on that but also false advertising.... And yes, it is a business... If I was in a business to fix cars and all of a sudden my tools were gone, and the lifts didn't work, I'd close it until it all got fixed... I've seen replies over the months regarding this engine issue in support of NCL as though us, the customers, should be glad we can go to any port... Well NCl should be glad they have us as customers... They wouldn't get very far if we chose not to sail!!!! Again, my opinion.....

And I'm a happy NCL customer just off the Pride of America... So this isn't an anti-NCL post... I just don't think it's right to mislead the public with what's advertised and tell them just to be happy with what they get when it's not what they signed up for or booked....Luckily before they allowed cancellations without penalty... Hope that hasn't changed.....

I disagree they never should have stopped new bookings. They should have on the other hand published a realistic itinerary. I have to believe from all the feedback from those that have been onboard NCL expected this problem to be fixed on several occasions including last week.

They have been trying. Taking the ship out of service is not the answer for the passengers, the crew, or NCL.

Keep in mind things may change again - here comes Gamma:eek:

Vette - there are some EXCELLENT Mayan ruins reachable from Progreso.

My personal favorite Mayan ruin is Uxmal - about 1.5-2 hours from Progreso.

Also Chichen Itza is about the same distance in another direction. And VERY close to Progreso are the ruins at Dzbilchaltun (not as impressive as Uxmal or Chichen Itza but there is a lovely cenote to swim in the ruin site and a nice little museum).

Shoreguy, Shoreguy, Shoreguy....there you go interjecting logic again. You, as well as I, know that some people will always have concerns about everything. I am intently waiting for the first people to return from visits to Cozumel. Because I am betting they will be tendering instead of docking. You don't honestly believe the docks were rebuilt????

PE<---basking in the afterglow of another fantastic NCL cruise...

Really? If you had a four bay garage with 4 lifts, you would shut the entire business down if just one lift broke? You'd go out of business in a hurry if you did.

You stated, I'D CLOSE IT UNTIL IT ALL GOT FIXED...

Shoreguy:

Sorry, but could you please explain the map.

I do follow your logic, and agree completely re this situation.

(Yes, I happen to be map challenged too!)

Thanks

That is the projected path of the newest storm (Gamma) expected to turn into a hurricane. As you can see it it stays on its current track it could reach Cozumel early next week

You know we all have different views/opinions.... And apparently we won't agree.... Thank god we're in the U.S... Freedom for difference of opinion.. My main statement is that if you don't make all ports for reasons not weather related but ship malfunction related, your not getting the trip you planned/paid for.... And at a $1000+, that's just not right......Nuff said.......
