Sch-uite Sailing Posted January 26, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 26, 2017 We will be on the Eastern Caribbean itinerary in 3 weeks. With regards to the outside pool.... 1) is it heated or simply heated by the sun? 2) I believe it's salt/ocean water. Is the water treated or changed out before every cruise...at the end of a 7 day cruise? 3) any idea as to the temperature of the pool in February? Thanks! TFLG Posted January 26, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 26, 2017 Pretty sure the S-class ships have heated pools and they are fresh water.
wallie5446 Posted January 26, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 26, 2017 (edited) Heated by the sun above! Fresh water. During February it will be a tad cool, but we got used to it after a bit.:p Edited January 26, 2017 by wallie5446
cb at sea Posted January 27, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 27, 2017 Solar heat! It's the best! No worries...if the sun is shining, the pool will get uncomfortably hot by mid-afternoon.
TFLG Posted January 27, 2017 #6 Share Posted January 27, 2017 I sailed out of Vancouver on the Solstice and the weather was freezing, the outdoor pool was nice and warm though. The Millie was another story, that pool was freezing when we sailed from Vancouver last April.
Luvcrusn Posted January 27, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 27, 2017 Sailed the Eclipse in December. The 2 outside pools were so warm that there was little difference between the pools and the hot tubs! I don't think cold water will be a problem!
lilghallinsf Posted January 27, 2017 #8 Share Posted January 27, 2017 I have sailed on the reflection four times. It is NOT heated by anything other than the sun Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
chengkp75 Posted January 27, 2017 #9 Share Posted January 27, 2017 Fresh water pools will be in recirculation mode, and will be treated with chlorine. Sea water pools can be either recirculation or flow through. If the ship is outside 12 nm from land, the pool may be in flow through mode, where sea water is continuously pumped into the pool, and the overflow continuously flows back to the sea. Flow through pools are not treated. When a sea water pool is within 12 nm of shore, it must be either closed and drained, or switched to recirculation mode, just like a fresh water pool, and must then be treated with chlorine, just like a fresh water pool. Since it requires closing the pool for an hour or so, to get the chlorine levels correct, whenever switching from flow through to recirculation, many ships do not switch to flow through unless there are more than a couple of sea days in a row. Ship's pools are typically drained and cleaned between once a week, and twice a month.
