A few questions about Adventure Ocean (Kids Club)

Recommended Posts

Sailing the Anthem in May, but I'm assuming the program is pretty similar across the fleet.

For those with kids, specifically the age 5-9 range, What was your experience like with Adventure Ocean? Longshot, but how does the program with RC compare with NCL's Splash Academy? Last time I sailed RC, I wasn't even engaged yet... Now, married, 2 kids and many years later, a good kids program is a very high priority for us! I thought NCL's program was fantastic. I'm hoping RC has a comparable kids camp.

What are the hours, How is daily check in like and if anyone has any recent compasses, it would be greatly appreciated!

:D:D:D:D:D

Thank you in advance!

They are comparable with NCL.... the Oasis class have a few more amenities for children.... I see you are on Anthem, it is new so I assume it has the upgrades as well such as the kids talent show theater and the science lab. You can check in online. The hours are free from 9AM-10PM.

Added: it is a breeze to check the kids in...take them to the club, and sign them in...rarely a line for this, even when picking them up.

I'm in a similar situation to you, last time I cruised hubby was just "boyfriend" and we had no kids...now we are sailing with our 6 year old in March....hopeful you get a lot of feedback...but I hear really good things about the Kids Club....

Hours on sea days are usually 9-12, 2-5, and 7-10. After 10 they stay open until 2 am or till the last kid leaves and there is a fee of $7 per hour per kid. On port days they open half an hour before the first scheduled exclusion and closing times for the "day" session vary depending on what time you are in port. We haven't cruised NCL so I can't compare the programs, but I will say my 6 year old LOVES Adventure ocean. Many times we would go to pick her up and she would ask us to come back later cause she was having so much fun. I think your kids will enjoy it!

Pardon the piggyback on the thread but I have heard mention of something to the effect of that they will have the kids eat in the MDR for 45 minutes with the family and then come and collect the kids so you can finish your dinner (which is genius because my kids head would start to spin if he had to sit at a 2hr dinner after that 45 minute point lol) but how exactly does that work?

Also I heard something about the kids eating a dinner together at Johnny Rockets....any more info on that is appreciated...

Thanks....

That's what sold me. On our last cruise oasis I had two in the club and one too old. My two didn't want to leave. At that time they were 5 and 10. Beyond amazing. I have a photo of my sons painted face like a tiger and I was surprised so much as what detail and how well it looked they paraded them Around as well. I felt comfortable leaving them as well and they had a lot of group activities. My kids couldn't have said any more positive things

That's why we are returning to royal. Dh and I actually had time to dine at chops alone etc. my two will be older and in the teens club but my youngest 9 so he will have a blast.

I don't have anything to compare it too as far as cruises but we stay at all inclusive with great kids club and by far the cruise was the best

we were on the liberty in December, and my 9 year old loved the kids club, he got upset if I picked him up early, lol. we were on MTD, so we didn't do the family dining, or whatever it's called when they pick the kids up early. They also did a couple of kids dinner nights, but we didn't do those either. I had made a deal with him that if he behaved in the main dining room for dinner, and ordered off the adult menu (lots of stuff he liked!), the we would do pizza or burgers, or other junk food for lunch. He did great, and our assistant waiter was amazing with him.

I have not been on NCL, so I can't help you there. We were on Disney when my son was 6, and he absolutely HATED the club. He begged us not to make him go back, and said he'd rather sit in the cabin with a babysitter (which they don't have anyway...but that's how desperate he was not to go back).

We were just on Harmony, and my son is now 8. He loved Adventure Ocean. He only went at night, and one night he asked to stay for the "Late Night Party Zone" (that's when you pay $7/hour) because he was having so much fun.

If you have traditional dining, early seating, you can have the pick up option. They get your child's dinner served right away, and about 45 minutes later, the AO staff are waiting at the main entrance to the dining room. You just bring your child over to them, and they escort them up to the club. Sometimes the staff walks around the dining room so that you know they are there and ready for kids. We do not do early dining, so we didn't use this option.

The way the 45 min dinner thing works is the waiters will bring the kids food out so they can be done eating in 45mins. The Adventure ocean staff then comes to the entrance of the dinning room. they pick a floor to meet everyone and they pick the kids up. The adults dinner is served in the normal time frame. WE LOVE THIS. The kids love AO and beg to go. If you have other questions we have been on many cruises with the kids. My oldest is 10 and has been going to AO since he was 4. Our kids are 10, 5, and 4. The best part is you sign them in and out of the program. As they get older you can choose if they can sign themselves out or if you have to do it.

Can you also do this on my time dining if you get an early enough dining time? (Will they pick up the kids and take them?)

We have always had a dinner time. I think that they said no before somewhere but I would think if you are there to meet them they would pick them up. problem might be getting their food out fast enough to meet them. You can always drop them off too. Sorry I know that wasn't much of help. We will be doing My time on our transatlantic in April so we will see.

I can't remember what dining we had during the time I'm talking about...it was either mft or normal early dining.

The only time DS was ever part of being escorted there, they met up on the second level of the dining room (on freedom). DS and the daughter of our table mates were both 11 and the girl had cruised many times. She just led DS up to the meeting spot while the adults stayed at the table. But the point of saying this is that if you had a younger kid you do actually take them to the spot outside whichever restaurant level designated.

If I'd had to do that honestly I would have just taken DS up there myself, which we did do a couple times before the kids had made friends with each other (and DS tended to wanted to change clothes). And the times they met the escort they weren't finishing dinner or having dessert; they were very rushed.

My plan was to let kids eat at buffet early 5-7 and then drop them at kids club and adults eat a later dinner, like at 8. Anyone else do that?

That is more or less our plan this time. We've done the Family dining with early seating but we don't like eating that early. The timing worked well for our daughter though. We have also done MTD with her and second seating this past year because we couldn't switch to main dining (on Disney - which was way too late for her and we were all miserable). This time we are going to get food for her, drop her off at AO and then enjoy adult only dinners. She is not a fan of sitting through dinners so it works best for all of us.

We usually fed our son early (around 6:00), and then took him up to AO before we went to dinner. We do not like to eat early, so that eliminated the option of having the AO counselors take our son upstairs for us. The MTD dining room is different from the traditional dining room, so the counselors wouldn't be at MTD. I suppose you could take your child to the other dining room, but at that point, you might as well just take him/her upstairs yourself.

What is the current age kids are allowed to sign in and sign out by themselves on RCCL? Or sign out a sibling?

We were on Celebrity for a 15-nt Panama Canal in November and our older child could sign our younger one in and out which was a huge help (and of course only 16 kids onboard that sailing which was nice... but they are good at going straight there and we don't let them use elevators or decks with rooms... only public decks getting from Point A to Point B... unless returning to our room)
